“Collapsed in Sunbeams”: an Ode to Arlo Parks and Remembering her Memorable Austin Show

Arlo Parks performing at Empire Garage + Control Room in the Fall of 2021.

2021 was a breakout year for Arlo Parks including her sold out North America The Collapsed In Sunbeams Tour. Arlo Parks treated her Austin fans at the Empire Control Room this October with a show-stopping performance.

The smooth rhythms and soulful vibes of Arlo Parks have taken over the indie music scene.  Her debut album Collapsed in Sunbeams has launched her music career, earning her the 2021 Brit Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and two Grammy nominations. Parks, only 21, is a British singer and songwriter that’s just getting started.

Arlo’s lyrics hit another level of relatability to so many. From a friend dealing with mental illness to a failed relationship due to LGBTQ pressures of the world. It’s refreshing to relate so deeply about real struggles while head bobbing and getting lost in a groove. With Parks’ smoother than silk voice and bass bouncing rhythms, it’s no wonder why her fans swoon over her music.

Arlo Parks sold out her North American tour this past fall. Night after night, Parks left it all on stage. Watching Parks groove with her bandmates was truly an unforgettable experience. It’s visible that she feels every word she sings. With eyes closed and a clenched fist to her chest, you know she feels every word. A true musical treat to any music lover, with extended jam sessions at the end of her songs and an intimate poetry read in the middle of her set.

A ray of sunbeams after such a dark time.
