Chicago native rapper, LUCKI, performed an unforgettable and chaotic show in Dallas for the early leg of his North American tour.
With the scorching Texas heat, fans were relieved to see the South Side Ballroom team open the doors for entry, this relief would prove to be short lived as the box office placed a “SOLD OUT” sign in the window and the bodies began piling up in the pit.
Lucki listeners piled up towards the barricade to hopefully get a good view of their favorite rapper. Before the show even began, stage security began misting the crowd with water to temporarily cool down the sweaty and excited audience. As the time grew closer and closer to the awaited set time, the crowd started to chant “LUCKI” until the overhead lights began to dim and the stage lights took over, strobing and passing over the stage.
To start the night, DJ Killa Kam provided the crowd with upbeat songs and tracks to hype up the already high energy audience until Lucki was ready to bring a show packed with rhythm and rhyme.
Growing up in West Chicago, Lucki started his rapping career in Freshman year of high school, and not long after dropped out to pursue music full-time. Not long after releasing his debut single, “Untouchable Lucki”, he gained notable attention. Lucki has continually released successful singles and albums as well as worked with various artists such as Danny Brown, King Krule, Trippie Redd, Lil Yatchy, FKA Twigs, and Chance the Rapper. Recently, in June of this year, Lucki released his newest album titled GEMINI! and has a full North American tour planned to showcase his new work, as well as sprinkling in a few older tracks to the setlist.
During the show, it felt like a never ending rush of excitement and fun. With fans jumping, dancing, and rapping to their favorite tracks, the air in the South Side Ballroom was filled with humidity, but also good vibes! The crowd didn’t hesitate to up the anticipation by spreading away in a circle to create a legendary mosh pit. Shoes, hats, glasses, and random accessories were seen flying through the air as the beat dropped and the crowd went nuts. Lucki performed each song with a style and cadence like no other, and left the audience begging for more as the show wrapped up.
This excitement is not ending after the Dallas show, as Lucki has upcoming shows scheduled in big cities all across North America to keep the party going and the fans asking for more.
I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
