Packing out the legendary Granada Theater in Dallas, High Fade makes a return in ode to their new album, ‘Twice As Nice’.
While fans socialize and line up in front of Granada Theater in Dallas, Scottish funk-rock band High Fade is out back, lighting up cigarettes with opener JT Loux and his crew waiting for the venue doors to swing open.
The buzz of the neon sign illuminating giant letters spelling out “HIGH FADE” fizzles out after the three men relocate to the front of the venue. Fans try to play it cool as they ask about the tour and share appreciation for the music. About a year and a half earlier, the trio sold out the neighboring venue, Sundown at Granada, and expressed deep gratitude for getting to play the legendary stage at Granada Theater.
While JT Loux climbs the truss towers on the side of the stage, entrancing the audience with a lively performance, lead singer Harry Valentino, bassist Oliver Sentance and drummer Heath Campbell get revved up for their set. Peeking through the curtain from backstage, a sea of people wait anxiously for what’s to come next. One minute before show time, the guys gather for a quick huddle and handshake before they make their way to the dark hazy stage.
The piercing cymbals and overdriven guitar crack through the dense fog barrier between the stage and crowd during their intro song, “I Hate This Road”. The chemistry on stage and even with the audience is untamed and quite remarkable. Valentino acts as a puppet master. Everything he does, the crowd with mirrors. During the groovy tune of “Bone To Pick”, Valentino orchestrates the house to follow his lead. Moving his arms from the left, to the middle and to the right, on cue, the fans obey, creating a massive wave of arms in the air.
Dallas got some favorites such as “Fur Coat”, “Gossip”, “Chameleon,” and of course, “Burnt Toast and Coffee”. The band was left in awe by the love shown towards them on and off the stage that night. Closing out the night, the band was showered with adoration. The accomplished trio will continuously have a reason to come back across the pond to Dallas.
