The Psychedelic Furs Bring Nostalgia to House of Blues in Dallas

Post-punk band The Psychedelic Furs played a show worth remembering in Dallas with special guest Evan Dando from the Lemonheads.

Heavy fog and guitar distortion welcomes Evan Dando from “jangle pop-rock” band The Lemonheads onto the stage of the Foundation Room in House of Blues. Introducing the crowd to his eclectic folk feel, Dando opens his set with a cover from the band Smudge, “The Outdoor Type.” His set consisted of mostly acoustic songs from The Lemonheads mixed with some other covers, and a 30 second unfinished song played with someone from backstage. The calm acoustic rock quickly turned to heavy vocals and guitar effects in the middle of songs while switching off on the two mics on stage. Beers were in the air with dancing people but Dando’s music is for an exquisite taste. While dedicating most of his songs to his girlfriend who lives in Brazil and someone named Tom, Evan Dando is surely a character worth seeing.

The mature audience of grown adults and few influenced adolescents cheer as the lights dim and six suited figures emerge from backstage. The post-punk band The Psychedelic Furs bring a sense of nostalgia when they open with “Run and Run.” Richard Butler is one with the crowd as he dances and composes with them. Although most of the members are in their 60’s, the band as a whole bring this youthful energy while preforming. Leading up to “Love My Way,” the recognizable beat brings everyone in the venue together singing. Guitarist, Rich Good plays what looks like a one of a kind Fender Jazzmaster with a flipped headstock. Except for drums and keys of course, every musician did not stay in one spot for more than 20 seconds. The continuous energy and contribution to the crowd was truly an experience.

I am a Dallas-based photographer. I am social media manager and photographer for indie-rock band Laredo Two as well as writer and photographer for Prosper's online newspaper, Eagle Nation Online. I have always had a passion for anything music from playing shows myself (I play bass and guitar) to music photography. When I am not taking pictures or at a concert, I run a small jewelry business and work at a local guitar shop!
