Skizzy Mars Performs at the Studio at the Factory in Deep Ellum

Rapper Skizzy Mars creates a high energy night at The Studio at the Factory in Deep Ellum on his “As Bad As We Want to Be” North American tour.

As the sun goes down and the city of Dallas begins to light up this exciting Saturday evening, fans begin lining up on Canton street, energized and ready to see Skizzy Mars.

Before Skizzy makes his appearance on stage, openers Moonlander and Brake get the crowd ready for a night of good vibes and even better music.

Moonlander, more formally known as Dillon Church, mixes styles of pop and hip hop that creates a perfect balance of sound that is sure to bring the crowd alive. As the first opener, Moonlander created an excitement within the crowd by making this set not only high energy, but also inclusive and engaging, throwing out free merch and talking with the fans, and even going into the pit to dance with the audience for a song.

Shortly after Moonlander finishes his set, singer-songwriter Brake takes the stage to bring the audience a performance full of passion, laughter, and love. Originally from Texas, Brake is back in his hometown to deliver a truly unforgettable show. A perfect way to prepare the crowd for the headliner, Skizzy Mars, to take on the rest of the night.

As the lights change to a dark red and the room gets quiet, the audience knows it’s moments before the evening turns into a night of amazing music.

Skizzy Mars, otherwise known as Myles Mills, is from the big city of Harlem in New York. He has been making music for years, choosing to pursue a life of rap and music instead of continuing his intended major of sports journalism. This passion and perseverance definitely paid off too, with his 2015 debut album reaching the top 40 in Billboards 200. His initial inspirations for his music was Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and A Tribe Called Quest, mixing with styles of contemporary and alternative rap.

As Skizzy performed his intricate set, the audience was definitely not disappointed. Whether you were a new fan with less knowledge about the rapper, or whether you have been a fan since day one, Skizzy made everyone feel included. Playing some of his newer songs as well as sprinkling in some tracks from his Soundcloud period, the fans danced, sang, and enjoyed Skizzy’s ability to truly put on an amazing performance.

With Dallas being the halfway point in his North American tour, Skizzy isn’t done with his high energy shows yet. Places like Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York City can expect this rapper to make an appearance on stage.

I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
