Metric Kicks Off the ‘All the Feelings’ Tour in Austin

Metric, an indie-rock band from Toronto, reunite with fellow Canadian bands Broken Social Scene and Stars for the ‘All the Feelings’ tour kick off at Austin’s Moody Amphitheater.

The All the Feelings Tour, uniting Toronto indie staples Metric, Broken Social Scene, and Stars, launched its 18-date North American run at Austin’s Moody Amphitheater on Monday, June 8th. The night delivered on the promise of the tour: a celebration of friendship, community, and the tangled family tree these bands have shared for over two decades.

Stars opened the evening, and they had a blast doing it. Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan traded vocals with the easy chemistry of people who’ve done this for twenty-plus years, leaning on lush, romantic synth-pop that still soars live. There’s no hiding that the band is aging, but the warmth in the room never dipped.

Broken Social Scene turned the stage into organized chaos, packing as many as twelve members up there at once. The sprawling collective ran through cuts old and new, with Stars’ Amy Millan stepping in to lend vocals on one song. The highlight came when Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw joined for “Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl,” the Scott Pilgrim favorite that doubled as a thesis statement for the whole tour: show up for each other.

Metric closed the night and proved why they headline. Emily Haines commands a stage, fronting a sound that blends synth and rock with a distinctly 80s sheen. Songs pulsed with neon-bright keys and driving guitar as Haines worked the crowd with restless energy, equal parts rock frontwoman and synth-pop conductor.

Between songs, she kept affectionately calling her tourmates “Canadian muppets,” recalling friendships that stretch back to high school. For “Loyal,” she brought the openers back out, the connecting thread of the entire evening made literal: a stage suddenly crowded with old friends. The encore landed hard with the anthemic “Help I’m Alive” and the defiant “Black Sheep,” sending the amphitheater off on a high.
