In the heart of the Dallas underground scene staple ‘Zound’s Sounds B-Side’ manages to bring the community together, one show at a time.
Zound’s has longstanding roots in the community, originally starting as a music school owned and operated by Marc and Amy Curnrow, but the B-Side came about later in its history. The idea for the B-Side was first conceived after an eventful State Fair meeting with Dallas Observer writer Simon Pruitt, who proposed the concept to Marc and Amy. They agreed, and on January 18, 2024, they hosted their first show with country-rock trio The Ottoman Turks. This kicked off their Nocturnes series, a six-week set of shows to commemorate the venue’s opening, and the rest, as they say, was history.
From there, they have continued to work to improve the DFW music scene for good. As a venue, they began to put on some of the most diverse shows found in the area, going beyond the screamo, emo, and hardcore-punk dichotomy found at your typical venue. Zound’s has gone far beyond that, hosting events such as a concert featuring DJ Payasita ‘Alaska’, an EDM artist known for her involvement in the Dallas rave scene.
They’ve also become known around the community for hosting events like Galentine’s, an open-mic and dinner, and a regional theatre showcase, alongside a benefit show for Meals on Wheels. Zound’s has become more than a local venue; it is a “third space” for the community to gather, and we are all excited to see where they go in the future.

I'm from Plano, Texas. As an advanced technical theater student at Plano East Senior High, I have a deep passion for physical media, particularly collecting records and CDs. I'm also an avid member of my high school's tech crew, where I spend much of my time building and assembling, which fuels my creativity. When I'm not in the classroom shop crafting the next set piece, you can find me vibing to the eclectic sounds of Le Tigre, They Might Be Giants, and Mazzy Star.
