Horse Jumper of Love Brings Denton an Evening of Euphonious Jams

Slowcore-style band, Horse Jumper of Love, stops at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio in Denton, Texas to perform a set that fans wanted to last forever.

As the fall months begin rolling in, so does the cool breeze, which relieves Texans from the seemingly endless months of summer heat. It was a perfect night for slacker rock lovers to gather together for an outdoor show at Rubber Gloves in Denton, Texas. The venue was the perfect place for Horse Jumper of Love, as although the crowd was packed, the show and performance was quite intimate, with fans being so very close to one of their top artists.

Before the performances began, fans bustled around the building, some lingering on the patio as the stage was being sound checked, while others found themselves inside the building ordering drinks and conversing with each other, especially regarding their joint appreciation of Horse Jumper of Love. Before the crowd knew it, the band was already up on stage, tuning their instruments and getting ready to provide Denton a perfect show to kick off the cozy, chill, and calm fall season.

Sooner than later, the rest of the lingerers in the building made their way to the patio stage to join the crowd as Horse Jumper of Love began to play.

Formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 2013, Horse Jumper of Love is originally a trio consisting of Dimitri Giannopoulos on lead vocals and guitar, John Margaris as backing vocals and bass, and Jamie Vadala-Doran on drums. After their self-titled studio album was released in 2017, it was an ultimate success, with popular tracks such as “Ugly Brunette” and “Orange Peeler”. Since their first studio album, Horse Jumper of Love has proceeded to release 4 other studio albums with their most recent album, Disaster Trick, which was released on August 16th of this year.

With their distinct and unique sound, Horse Jumper of Love is the perfect artist when you are looking for a calm, and slow vibe. Mixing elements of indie rock, shoegaze, slowcore, and slacker rock, this band is able to combine plenty of musical elements that create an overall pleasing and addictive sound for the ears, bringing the other four senses into play as the mind and body takes in the tracks.

During the performance, it was evident that fans were excited and ready to see the band, as cheers moved through the air when the first few chords of each track were played. Fans sang and moved around as the band meticulously played out their set, with each and every single receiving an overwhelming amount of applause. Horse Jumper of Love catered to all types of fans, new and old, by including tracks throughout their entire discography in their well-crafted setlist.

As the show wrapped up, some fans stood in place, in a musical trance, as the stage hands wrapped up the stage, other fans rushed to purchase merchandise to represent their possibly new favorite band. It was clear throughout the environment of the venue that Horse Jumper of Love provided the crowd with an amazing and ethereal set.

Fans left the venue and called it a night as the lines of cars pulled away with some blasting their favorite Horse Jumper of Love songs. The night in Denton might have been over, but Horse Jumper of Love has plenty more late show nights to come, in cities including Pittsburg, London, Berlin, and Paris.

I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
