The Bibliobar Welcomes Mason Merritt with Pop-Up Concert

Mason Merritt and indie-rock band ‘This Saturn Factory’ performed a spectacular set at The Bibliobar to celebrate the release of ‘Zounds Around’ zine.

For those who aren’t in the know, recently a pop-up event occurred May 19 as a collaboration with Dallas venue ‘The B-Side at Zound-Sounds’ . The event was organized to promote their new Zine ‘Zounds Around,’  which focuses on local music culture around Dallas. In celebration a concert was thrown that day at the most unconventional place, a bookstore in Plano.

The event starred up-and-coming solo artist Mason Merritt  alongside Dallas Indie band ‘This Saturn Factory’. The night started strong with Merritt performing on keyboard. Soon after, following in Mason’s footsteps, This Saturn Factory would take the reins, opening with fan favorite ‘I’m Still Waiting’ a catchy, drum-filled, effects-pedal heavy song from their debut album that really manages to solidify their sound. Additionally, who could forget about their excellent stage presence? They really managed to captivate the crowd, with their banter keeping the night lively in-between songs as they re-tuned their guitars, filling dead-space in between songs perfectly. There wasn’t a single dull moment that night.

Furthermore it was great getting to see such an enthusiastic performance, especially in a part of Texas not often known for its music scene. That’s ultimately what makes The Bibliobar’s endeavor so powerful, as this story is deeper than Plano, it’s about community. It’s ultimately inspiring to realize that by taking these small steps, a person can start their own scene and that’s what DIY is all about.By working alongside your local businesses, reaching out and attempting to collaborate with these places you can build a scene in the most unconventional places.

More people should follow in the footsteps of this concert as really that’s what DIY is all about.Ultimately by supporting local music, working alongside local business everyone wins, and we keep our communities thriving building the scene that we want to see.

I'm from Plano, Texas. As an advanced technical theater student at Plano East Senior High, I have a deep passion for physical media, particularly collecting records and CDs. I'm also an avid member of my high school's tech crew, where I spend much of my time building and assembling, which fuels my creativity. When I'm not in the classroom shop crafting the next set piece, you can find me vibing to the eclectic sounds of Le Tigre, They Might Be Giants, and Mazzy Star.
