Austin Psych Fest is right around the corner, and we’re here to help you with a quick guide of what to expect at this year’s festival.
Austin Psych Fest returns this weekend for its 15th anniversary with a stacked lineup including Alvvays, Chicano Batman, The Black Angels and more. The fest will be taking place in the backyard of Far Out Lounge, where the trees, stages, trippy and liquid lighting will be the festival one to remember. To ease your stress at the fest, Off Record has created a quick guide to help you get to know the festival and give you a rundown of what to expect!
The Far Out Lounge – Location
Unlike other festivals that happen in the city of Austin, Austin Psych Fest will take place at the Far Out Lounge in Deep South Austin. The Far Out Lounge is a beloved venue dedicated to highlighting Austin / Texas locals, which is why the location is perfect to host the festival. The fest will take place in the extremely large patio space, set up with two stages and easy access to everything.
Parking Situation
Due to the location of Far Out Lounge, Parking is EXTREMELY limited, and the festival encourages attendees to use alternate forms of transportation, especially during peak hours. You can use Rideshare apps, as the fest has a designated drop off and pick up spot at the North West corner of the venue off South Congress and Ralph Ablanedo Dr. You can also take public transportation by taking advantage of the Park and Ride spots using the Metro or RapidBus (from Downtown)! If you (bravely) choose to park at the venue, you can park in the large lot at the corner of Ralph Ablanedo Dr and Peaceful Hill Ln, which is about a 5-7 minute walk to the Far Out Lounge and only has space for about 300 vehicles – so if you choose to drive, GET THERE EARLY!
Kick-Off + Night Shows
Want to get the party started early or wish to keep the party going after the day has wrapped? No worries, there are a bunch of show opportunities for you to catch around Austin! Thursday night will host numerous shows in Downtown Austin at multiple venues.The official kick-off show at Empire Garage + Control Room featuring Golden Dawn Arkestra, Jaron Marshall, Caramelo Haze and more. Other late shows include Luna Li at Empire on Friday Night, Lord Friday the 13th at 13th Floor on Saturday Night, and Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band LP Release Show at 13th Floor on Sunday Night.
Artist Schedule
There will be two stages at APF2024, both stages named after iconic legends who performed at the Far Out Lounge in the early days – the Willie Stage and the Janis Stage. The performances have no overlap, giving you the chance to check out every single artist set to perform. Friday and Saturday doors open at 2pm, while Sunday doors open at 1pm. The days start off with smaller and upcoming acts, gradually leading up to the headliners of the night. Friday headliners include Courtney Barnett and Chicano Batman, Saturday headliners include The Black Angels and Earthless, and Sunday headliners include Alvvays and Kurt Vile & the Violators. The lineup is stacked with indie-psych artists, so we highly encourage you to arrive early and get a good spot!
What to Bring / What to Leave at Home
In true festival fashion, APF2024 also has rules on what you can and cannot bring to the festival. A list of ACCEPTABLE items include small purses/backpacks and cameras (disposable, point-and-shoots and removable lens are all fair game). PROHIBITED Items include chairs, musical instruments, alcohol, outside food or drinks, weapons/firearms, glowsticks, tri-pods, video + audio recording equipment, and unauthorized merchandise.
