Sir Woman, Skylar Rose Wilson, Open 2.o, Sketch, and Uncle Roy & Spice all shared the stage for a radiating night of robes, smiles, and dancing.
Over the weekend, Sir Woman took the Parish for a two-night-only event in downtown Austin. Austin natives filled the room as they supported their favorite local band. Skylar Rose Wilson kicked off the night with her smooth vocals and cheery mood, energizing the crowd for what was to come throughout the next few hours. It was evident that the audience was familiar with everyone’s work, no matter how small the act.
Following the incredible performance by Skylar Rose Wilson; Sketch, Open 2.o, and Uncle Roy & Spice took turns crowding the room with each of their unique sounds. Sketch with their groovy feel, pushing the mood to an energetic high; Open 2.o with their dynamic riffs and passion; and Uncle Roy & Spice with their harmonious vocals and their lively choreography. Each band member was in tune with the other, and the vibrancy of the audience continued to grow as they waited in exhilaration for the main act.
At the end of their performance, the band left the stage with an entertaining drum solo. As the stage emptied, the eagerness for more music throughout the crowd began to spread until all of the acts took the stage again, and were joined by Kelsey Wilson of Sir Woman.
The band re-entered the stage, this time, in robes and less footwear; accompanied by a stick of incense that was lit and set on top of a speaker (which would later fall over due to the bass of the music). The band began their set with a slow and quiet song, settling the room before cranking up the energy to a high it had yet to be at.
The polished vocals of Kelsey Wilson, the euphonious harmonies from Uncle Roy & Spice, the occasional percussion break that felt like fighting; but was perfectly congruent, the fiery passion of the sax, and each other instrument pushing each other to reach the end of each song in perfect synchrony makes it very clear of one thing; Sir Woman is the epitome of a band. There was no one star of the show. Each band member perfectly filled their role and the solos and attention were evenly distributed throughout the team, allowing each personality and unique sound to shine through and tie together to create a blissful sound.
If you were to step into that room, not knowing a single song, there’s a good chance you might walk out of it with a new favorite band.
