Austin City Limits 2023: Weekend Two, Day One Recap

With ACL Weekend Two in full swing, festival goers were out in the Texas sun enjoying performers like Nessa Barrett, Lil Yachty, The Lumineers and many more.

The 5 member band FONT kicked off the party at the American Express stage. The lead singer’s somewhat raspy voice created a unique listening experience with a set list that was an ever-changing flow of rhythms. They smoothly transitioned between loud and fast paced songs like “Sentence I”, to slower melodic tunes and back again. In the evening, Major Lazor drew a significant crowd with classics such as “Lean On” and “Que Calor”. He encouraged the audience to participate in coordinated dance moves, including jumping jacks, which was made even more exciting with the presence of professional dancers on the stage.

In addition to the live music performances, the Coca-Cola Studio offered festival-goers a chance to create their own private music video within a virtual environment. As they waited for their turn, attendees could enjoy an elevated view of the festival and take pictures with props. After the fact, they received a 30-second video  as a keepsake and enjoyed a refreshing ice-cold Coca-Cola.

Lil Yachty was definitely the most riled up performance of the day, as he continuously kept telling the crowd to open up the pit, even in the dreading Texas heat. Other performers throughout the day included the aesthetic Maggie Rogers, who played her hit tracks like “Alaska” and “Lights Off” at the Honda Stage right before the Lumineers. Kendrick Lamar ended off the night with a bang, redeeming himself after the whole time incident from ACL Weekend One.

Overall, Day One of the second weekend was a great way to start off a new festival trek, as festival goers were getting to know their place and enjoy what’s yet to come.
