And We Back… Chance the Rapper Kicks Off Tour at Bayou Music Center in Houston

A smile from ear to ear appears on Chicago artist Chance the Rapper as he touches the stage for the first stop of his “And We Back Tour” in Houston at the Bayou Music Center.

Known for his intricate wordplay and playful production, Chance is a three-time Grammy Award-winning independent artist who recently released his newest album, STAR LINE. To celebrate his latest release after a six-year gap, he took  on a North American tour with special guests Lil Flip and TisaKorean in Houston.

The stage was set with a white sheet, allowing him to project the lyrics of his songs as he performed them. This was something I hadn’t seen before, but I enjoyed it as a listener because sometimes you can miss certain bars or references. Chance stepped out in an all-black outfit and with a confidence that you couldn’t turn your head away from.

He began the night with new tracks like “Star Side Intro,” “Ride,” and “3333.” This was the first time he was performing many of these songs, so the crowd cheered and admired, and the most loyal, of course, rapped bar for bar. “Houston, and we back,” he said as he took in the loud and warm crowd of all ages.

Chance the Rapper continued his set with songs from his catalog like “No Problem,” “All Night,” and one of my favorites, “All We Got.” Old-school fans cheered as these songs were performed. A highlight of the show was when the sheet that originally projected lyrics and visuals fell down and revealed a clear box where he was performing inside. This added a nice touch of change and surprise to the show.

To wrap up the night, the Chicago artist played hits like “I’m The One,” “Juke Jam,” and “Speed of Love.” With this night, Chance the Rapper continues to prove that you can achieve anything you want—even as an independent artist.
