The 5 Seconds of Summer Show: A Special Evening at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

Houston gets sauced by 5 Seconds of Summer on their 5SOS Show World Tour with special guest, Meet Me @ the Altar.

Australian natives, 5 Seconds of Summer brought their “5 Seconds of Summer Show” to The Woodlands, Texas on September 9th, 2023 with special guest openers, Meet Me @ The Altar.

The 5SOS Show is a live tour continuation based on their 10 year anniversary celebration Youtube live broadcast that was filled with exclusive interviews with the band, live performances, and short comedy sketch commercials. The setlist for the 5SOS Show included a wide variety of tracks spanning from their extensive 10+ years as a band. Longtime and dedicated fans got to hear old time favorites ranging from their self-titled album all the way up to their newest record, 5SOS5

The 5 Seconds of Summer Show included interactive segments with the audience throughout the night. The engaging moments with fans included a clap-o-meter battling Ashton Irwin on drums, sitcom video visuals teasing the audience for still being stuck in their 2014 phase, and the “Best Friend Cam” that films the crowd with their friends that is shown on the big screen. On top of all of the multiple entertaining aspects of the show, there was always time for multiple confetti cannons to be blasted through the crowd making it a never-ending party.

In addition, each night on tour, 5SOS performs a random selection of selected songs picked out by a large inflatable dice that is thrown into the crowd. The tracks are all early songs from the beginning of the band’s career: “Voodoo Doll”, “Heartache On The Big Screen”, “English Love Affair”, “If You Don’t Know”,Heartbreak Girl”, and “Wrapped Around Your Finger”. The audience has a limited time to get the dice back on stage or 5SOS gets to decide the surprise song. However, on this special Saturday night at The Woodlands, the dice song was “English Love Affair”. After performing the song, drummer Ashton Irwin teasingly joked with the crowd saying, “Glad you liked it, ‘cause it wasn’t good for me” referring to the lyrics and possible backstory of the track.

The crowd was dancing, singing, and screaming at the top of their lungs throughout the whole night earning the band’s approval for their never-ending energy. Bassist, Calum Hood even mentioned that in his next life he wanted to become a Texan and own a modest farm filled with chickens and 3 cows (with the cows named Luke, Ashton, and Michael, of course).

The 5 Seconds of Summer Show is a once in a lifetime event that you do not want to miss out on! The production and attention to detail throughout the entirety of the show does not go unnoticed because at the end of the concert, a special thank you visual lists all members of the crew for their support and hard work. Their love and compassion for their fans is always their number one priority and it shines through their energy and actions.
