Reaperfest: A University of Houston Rugby Team Celebration

On a nice Thursday evening, the UH Rugby team threw a cool celebration on the Lynn Eusan Park stage that featured some of Houston’s favorite UH local bands.

Starting off Reaperfest was solo artist Ethan Jones, who is formerly the guitarist for band called Sad Allen (currently on hiatus). He performed songs from his discography, including the newly-released “I Miss You So” and songs from I Hope I’m For You.

Next up was Hazy Sky, a beloved Indie-rock band from Houston that was formed by lead singer Cole Wilbur. He also helped organized the entire Reaperfest celebration, as the singer is a prominent member of the UH Rugby team. On stage were members Zab, Miguel and Evan, all who created a great stage presence and music magic. They performed newer, unreleased songs, as well as favorites like “Far from Home” and “Adidas Slides.”

Elevator Days took the stage after, and performed an exhilarating set. The band has members Ethan, James, Samantha and Kevin, who formed the band about a year ago. They have been all over Houston and have even performed will more well-known acts like Mike Mains & the Branch, Emma Ogier and West 22nd. They are also set to perform an opening set for JID at Frontier Fiesta at the University of Houston. For this performance, they played intimate versions of their songs, like “Once Again” and “Call Me When You Get Home.”

The Creeps rocked the night with their heavy metal original tracks and got the crowd moshing and moving. The Creeps are a well-known metal band around Houston, and have even won the Houston Rodeo’s Rising Star Competition. They played songs like “Wicked Candle” and “Black Tar,” as well as covers from bands like Rage Against the Machine, KORN and System of a Down. The entire rugby team jumped all around and the crowd was headbanging non-stop.

Overall, Reaperfest was a success. The Rugby team created a successful festival that beats any other music festival on campus, and it would be great to see the fest become an annual music event.
