The Academy Is … celebrated 20 years of Almost Here alongside new music at a packed Emo’s Austin show, featuring opener Jon Walker.
The Academy Is… recently celebrated 20 years since the release of their debut album in Austin, like it was 2005. But that wasn’t the only album being celebrated in the crowded room at Emo’s. The Academy Is… released their latest album, Almost There, on March 27. The Chicago-based band played Almost Here in its entirety with a mix of their greatest hits and new tracks in between. New songs included “2005,” “Freak Out,” and “100 Miles an Hour,” and greatest hits like “About A Girl,” “Big Mess,” and “L.A.X.”
Jon Walker, of The Young Veins and formerly of Panic! at the Disco, opened the night at Emo’s. Walker played songs including “So It Goes,” “I’m Growing A Beard,” as well as a cover of “Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today” by Fall Out Boy, “Take A Vacation” by The Young Veins, and closed the show with “9 in the Afternoon” by Panic! At The Disco.
