Hey Violet Signs to Hopeless Records and Releases Long-Awaited Track ‘I Should Call My Friends’

Hey Violet’s releases new nostalgic and bittersweet single “I Should Call My Friends.”

The Los Angeles pop and alternative band, Hey Violet makes their triumphant return back to the music scene with their new track and visual release of “I Should Call My Friends.” Along with this is the celebration of signing with the notable music record label, Hopeless Records.

Hey Violet has undergone numerous transformations and upheaval phoenix risings to the point where they have finally arrived at the place where they are able to spread their wings and conquer their strongest desires. With the talents of sisters Rena (vocalist) and Nia Lovelis (drummer), joined by guitarist Casey Moreta, Hey Violet is undoubtedly ready to showcase their talents out into the universe. 

The band formed in the late 2010s and has since then seen big changes since their early pre-teen days and are now in constant momentum of developing their voices and musical artistry in every aspect.

Hey Violet released their debut album “From The Outside” in 2017 that overlooks the rose colored lens perspective and the essences of teen angst, heartbreak, love, lust, and personal identity. The album garnered attention from the scene that features cult fan favorite tracks such as “Break My Heart”, “Guys My Age”, and “Hoodie”. Throughout the years, Hey Violet had a few tricks up their sleeve by independently released singles and EP’s showing their diverse music taste and developing sound.

Leading up to their upcoming release and the torturous flirtations of consistently teasing fans about their new track, “I Should Call My Friends”, Hey Violet also announced major breaking news The band recently signed with Hopeless Records – they are currently on the groove of expanding their artistry based on what they truly love and best expresses their inner emotions.

“I Should Call My Friends” is a bouncy and nostalgic pop-punky track under Hopeless Records that is representative of personal experiences dealing with growth and inner turmoil of an endless cycle of reconnecting back with past lovers and friends or current loved ones. 

Vocalist Rena Lovelis shares the meaning behind the track and offers an insight into the tragic truth of mental disconnection and growing apart from others and the overwhelming toll that it takes from one’s soul.

‘I Should Call My Friends’ is a cry to a nostalgic reminiscing of youth and the song is simultaneously calling out bad habits I (Rena) slip into sometimes, like isolating and not keeping in contact with people as much as I normally would.

“I Should Call My Friends”’ implements close relationship details pertaining to events that occurred with friends and their current position of life. The track showcases the different passageways each person has taken all the while, Lovelis reminisces back on the golden days of what once was, “Cried my tears on your shoulder, but it was over. ‘Cause Eli’s getting married now. Fiona’s sleeping safe and sound. And Jeff found a way downtown”.

The bridge sums up the bittersweet mess of growing up and becoming your own individualized person but still retaining the love and care about that one special person: “Summer always fades away, I never thought we’d drift apart. even when the seasons change, you know I’ll never be too far”. 

The visuals for “I Should Call My Friends” garners stylistic influences of iconic early 2000s MTV emo and alternative music videos that brings you back into a place of nostalgia and comfort.

Hey Violet’s growth and maturity as a band is magnetized by their honest and relatable lyricism along with expanding their signature sound.
