On September 27th, Cuco brought his indie-psych sounds back to the Lawn at White Oak Music Hall while on the Cuco 4U tour.
Cuco is no stranger to the city of Houston. In fact, he was in here less than a year ago when he played the White Oak Lawn while on the Hitchhiker tour. Before that, he played at 713 Music Hall in 2022. With each yearly visit, the singer’s strong fanbase always makes sure to show out.
With no opener, Houston was left with a short amount of time to anticipate for the main act. Around 8:30 PM, the lights dimmed on stage and the audience roared. As the band walked out, the bassist came out swinging a large Mexican flag, repping the great country they were from. The show was introduced with “Hermoso Cariño” by Vicente Fernández before the performer went into “Ego Death in Thailand,” “Junkies and Rarities” and “Under the Sun.”
Not only did Cuco showcase his musical talent, but his compassion as well. Throughout the show, the artist stopped to sign vinyl records, posters and even a shoe. When there’s a show outside in the Houston heat, safety is always everyone’s top priority. Cuco was no different, as he made sure to always pause the music whenever there was a sign of someone that needed help. He even made sure to get some waters out to the crowd as well.
The set continued with songs such as “Feelings,” “Time Machine” and “Paraphonic,” leaving some amazing instrumental breaks for intricate guitar solos. He also played fan favorites like “Lover is a Day” and “Amor de siempre.” Towards the end of the show, Cuco took a second to get heartfelt with the crowd. As he opened up about his artistry and sobriety, he also took the time to thank the crowd, crew and band. It was overall a great show that had fans wanting more, but left them excited for his next return to the city.
I am from Houston, Texas and currently attending the University of Houston as a marketing major! From attending concerts, playing guitar, and collecting vinyl, I love anything that has to do with music. Some of my favorite artists include The Strokes, Omar Apollo, and boygenius. Besides that, I really like shopping, watching Pitch Perfect, and discovering new places in Houston!
