La Doble P Tour came to the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas for a sold-out show.
On August 12 Peso Pluma, born Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, performed the sold-out Toyota Music Factory Pavilion. Hailing from Mexico, he has carved a unique path in the world of music by blending regional Mexican music with modern influences like trap and reggaeton. With a distinctive style known as “corridos tumbados,” Peso Pluma’s music resonates with audiences far and wide ranging from young kids to grandparents. This broad appeal was abundantly evident in the crowd Saturday night, embodying the universal allure of his music that transcends age boundaries.
Kicking off the performance last Saturday night was Alemán, a prominent Mexican rapper who has left his mark on the hip-hop and rap landscape in Mexico. Renowned for his unique flow and undeniable charisma on stage, Alemán’s influence on Peso Pluma was acknowledged during the show when Pluma brought him on stage to perform their hit single together “Delivery” halfway through the set.
Only Minutes after Alemán’s performance, the crowd was prepped with heartfelt videos of Pluma’s band member explaining what Peso Pluma means to them. Shortly after the dimmed lights raised excitement as people began to get on their feet as a countdown appears with stunningly haunting visuals of flickers Peso Pluma and his symbolic spiders. The pavilion ruptured with excitement and pride as the barrier drops and exposes Pluma in a black Balaclava and a Balenciaga T-shirt paired with a white New-York hat. When removing the balaclava, the crowd ruptured in cheers as he looks around to take it all in with a serious demeanor, then a warm big smile.
He began the set with “La Melena” and filled the air with his world-famous raspy voice. With tons of energy from his band mates, before most songs he would pick a band mate to banter with and ask them to introduce the next song. Pluma was joined by Jasiel Nunez, one of the artists signed to Double P’s records, for “Lagunas” and “Rosa Pastel.”
One of stand-alone tracks of the night was “Las Morras” which began with a gentle acapella performance where a simple spotlight shined on Pluma as he engaged in a duet with the audience, sharing the mic as they passionately echoed the lyrics back. Shortly after, Pluma shifted gears as the lights dimmed and the floor-to-ceiling visuals enveloped the space in a captivating blue aura glow while the silhouette of a tarantula crept around the screens and the crowd passionately sang along.
The night ended with a duo of Pluma’s career-defining singles from his discography including his collaboration with Eslabon Armado “Ella Baila Sola” and a corridos tumbados anthem featuring Nathanael Cano, “PRC.” Pluma was sure to express his gratitude for the sold-out show and the love he has received in the last year. This genuine dedication to his fans was clearly demonstrated that night when a concertgoer attempted to approach the stage. Security promptly intervened to assist, but Pluma took notice and paused the set. Without hesitation, he hopped off the stage, rushed to the fan, embraced him, and shared a heartfelt moment, exemplifying his authentic connection with those who have supported his journey.
