Come witness the rebirth – Set It Off releases “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing [REBORN]” after 10 years of their iconic album, Duality.
With the original song almost at 4 million streams on Spotify, “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing” remains Set It Off’s biggest and most iconic song. It’s forever left its mark on the world and has been a staple song for many fans within the past decade. The album, Duality, that the song was featured in, was released back in 2014, now marking 10 years since.
When the band first teased something was going on, it was through an Instagram reel posted on October 11th, 2024. The reel included glowing yellow eyes with the date November 14th, 2024 flashing all over the screen. Many commented asking if it was a new song or album. Some were pretty spot on with guessing a remake of a song or some made the correlation of the date with the release of Duality in 2014.
The following day, another cryptic reel was posted, but still not giving much info, until a reel posted on October 13th gave the biggest hint, still the same reel but now including the line: “This is still about you.”, referencing the first line from the original song, “This is about you.” Followed by the famous intro riff. Many were quick to assume a remaster or remix of the song, but overall fans were excited to hear the song back in action as it holds such a special place in everyone’s hearts and is such a big part of early fandom communities.
Many Set It Off songs are considered staple songs in fandoms, but “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing” was truly the song mainly recognized by many. Fans of different fandoms, video games, and TV series. Some examples are Gravity Falls, Creepy Pasta, Five Night’s at Freddy’s, and more fandoms that made content with the song and boosted its popularity, many making edits and AMVs with the song, and of course, this didn’t go unnoticed by the band.
The band has always been thankful to these fandom communities for giving “WISC” the love it deserves. The main fandom they give thanks to is the video game UNDERTALE. The band has made many references to the game online, performed songs from the game’s soundtrack during shows, and now recently dropped merch featuring a character from the game in honor of this 10-year release, which has many fans raving online that the merch sold out almost immediately and had the band restock.
“Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing [REBORN]” was released on November 1, 2024. “As we approached the 10th anniversary of Duality – an album that kinda changed the game for us – we wanted to mark it in a way that felt like Set It Off in 2024”, the band said in an Instagram post on its release day.
For almost a year and a half, Set It Off has now been an independent band, and they’ve expressed how much it means to release this song in their own new way under their name and theirs alone “So here we are, reclaiming one of our biggest songs for ourselves, but also for you.”
This new version of the song was very obviously a lot heavier than the original, truly sticking to their statement of making it “in a way that felt like Set It Off in 2024.”, as the band has taken a turn with their sound since 2014. The song starts very similarly to the original, but heavier on the instrumentals. Lead singer, Cody Carson, also really amped up the tone of anger in vocals for this one which was the song’s biggest feature in the original.
Another big feature that now seemed to be missing was that the verse was now sung by Cody. The second verse in the song was originally sung by William Beckett from “The Academy Is…”. But Cody Carson sang the verse just as amazingly this time around. So far, other than the heavier sound, the song was pretty familiar, until the famous talking bridge began which led into a heavy instrumental breakdown. Heavy on drums, guitars, and even some screaming from Cody.
The song was received well by fans as many were happy to get a new version of the song. Fans took to TikTok to post their reactions and responses to the new song, many talking about the breakdown in the song, the instrumentals, and vocals, or just talking about the new fandom edits they’ll be able to make with the new song.
Fans are excited to see what other pieces of Set It Off from the past will be regained now and in the future since the band’s departure from their label. The band is currently finishing their Australian tour and then heading into their European tour.
