The PTM Foundation by Portugal. The Man – What You Need to Know

Portugal. The Man finds new ways to help their community and spread awareness for their family.

In 2019, indie rock band, Portugal. The Man, created the PTM Foundation. They created it with the intent of helping those in their community and has spread to and encouraged those around the world. They have focused on issues such as health, disability rights, human rights, community needs, and environmental issues. During their tour with Alt-J in 2022, they helped those in need of ADA accommodation when going to a concert. This way everyone could have a fun night out and enjoy a great show.

However, most of their support goes towards Indigenous people and their tribes. By fundraising, donating, and allowing grants from the PTM Foundation, Portugal. The Man was able to help Indigenous people and to spread the word on both needs within the community and to help individuals. They have also given tribes a literal platform to be able to speak to fans of Portugal. The Man and showcase their culture through their art of music and dances. Most of the money they raise goes to these tribes in the form of grants to help with food, water, safety, and housing. These grants have helped to better the lives of native and indigenous people all around the country.

The PTM Foundation’s most recent cause is directed towards one of their own family members. John Gourley and Zoe Manville’s 12 year old daughter, Frances, has a rare genetic mutation called DHDDS and is one of the six cases known in the world. On September 16th, 2023 in Portland, Oregon, they held a block party to help raise funds for Frances and her hard-to-get treatment. The band and her family have raised a lot of awareness towards DHDDS in hopes of both educating people and allowing the community to help. Portugal. The Man has helped their friends, family, and their community in countless ways and continues to find new ways to help those in need.
