Third day of coverage full of music, fun… and dogs! The Off Record Blog team attended events such as the Inaugural Wasserman’s Showcase and the Austin Chronicle’s annual Hair of the Three-Legged Dog Weekend and other SXSW showcases.
For the first event, the Austin Chronicle’s Annual Hair of the Three-Legged Dog was a party that never stopped, as there was plenty of room to walk about, have some beer and mingle. The main attraction of the event was Hank the dog, in which the event is named after – he was indeed a good boy! Artists included Spliff Kazoo, Magic Rockers of Texas, Belako, and Surfbort. The final act of the day was Yard Act, who hit the crowd with that classic UK sound and a tender heart. The lead singer James Smith performed a magic trick at the end of their set – taking the crowd’s money, and making it disappear into his pocket. He later dispensed those funds to the bartenders working the events.
The next event was the Wassermans’ Inaugural Day Party at Mohawk, and it was a great lineup with amazing artists – including Best Coast, who wasn’t originally on the list of artists to perform at SXSW. Artists in the bill included Los Retros, Ritt Momney, Neal Francis and Wet Leg. While ORB only covered the outdoor stage, it was surely an afternoon to remember.
On the other hand, ORB was also able to catch Pom Pom Squad at the Empire Garage as part of the Brooklyn Bowl showcase. The final showcase of the day, however, was SASAMI: who also performed at Mohawk as part of the The Hi, How Are You: The Unfinished Fest presented by The Daniel Johnston Trust and Electric Lady Studios. The set was unbelievable, as mosh pits were constantly occurring and crowd surfers were all over the place. SASAMI definitely proved that she can put on a rockin’ show.
