The “Night Shift” and boygenius singer/songwriter, Lucy Dacus releases her 4th studio album Forever Is A Feeling.

After boygenius’s triple Grammy win and subsequent hiatus in 2024, indie rock and indie folk musician Lucy Dacus returns to her solo work with Forever Is A Feeling

While her songs often deal with love, this album is special. Forever Is A Feeling was released after the announcement that Dacus is dating longtime friend and boygenius bandmate Julien Baker

Most of Dacus’s discography focuses on the past: young love, ex-lovers, and reminiscing on memories. This album is different because it focuses on the present. Dacus is in love right now

While her lyrics changed from past to present tense, her songs’ pronouns have stayed the same. Dacus usually avoids third-person pronouns like he, she, and they and instead opts for I, you, and we. Her songs have a sense of intimacy – like the songs are letters written directly to their subjects.

On “Limerence,” Dacus is afraid of her overwhelming love. She is worried that she’ll do something to ruin it and lose what she has. But the answer to this fear is in the title track “Forever Is A Feeling.” Dacus learns to embrace forever in moments, even in uncertainty. As she says in “Best Guess”: “If I were a gambling man, and I am – you’d be my best bet.”

The album features Hozier on “Bullseye” and background vocals from Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker throughout the project. Luna Li plays harp on “Modigliani” and “Come Out.”

I am a student at University of Houston currently studying Strategic Communications. In my free time, I write for different publications as I am extremely passionate about music. I collect vinyls, go to concerts, and play guitar. Some of my favorite artists include Paramore, Kendrick Lamar, and Lorde. On the weekends I make pottery, sew, and spend time with my dog.
