Ranging from all genres and decades, these are albums that will most likely fit the general personality traits of a sun sign. Whether you are looking for yourself or a friend, this is a fun way to test how well you might resonate with your sun sign.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): Room On Fire by The Strokes
Aries is passionate, confident, eager, and, most of all, a fire sign. Room On Fire is a perfect album to encapsulate the total energy of an Aries. With fast-paced tracks including “Reptilia” and “12:51”, Aries sun signs can easily rock out to this album with their naturally high-energy personality. With their adventurous and present-tense mindset, alternative, upbeat albums such as Room On Fire will equip Aries signs with inspiration to dominate their day.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Reading Writing Arithmetic by The Sundays
When analyzing the general traits of a Taurus, grounded and gentle spirits are usually the most commonly seen with this sun sign. As an earth sign ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, Taureans are most comfortable in rural and calm environments. With these defining characteristics, Reading Writing Arithmetic is a perfect album for those listening to a soft, terrestrial, and hazy feeling. The Sundays hit song “Here’s Where The Story Ends” is included in this album, along with other songs featuring lead singer Harriet Wheeler’s dreamy vocals.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20): The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd
Gemini’s have a common trait of being equipped with dual personalities, represented by the twins, or Greek mythology half brothers – Castor and Pollux. Similarly to the duality of a Gemini, the moon has bright and dark sides. The Dark Side of the Moon is a perfect album to express the main characteristics of a Gemini. As an intellectually curious and fearless thinker, tracks included in the album like “Eclipse,” “Brain Damage,” and “Us and Them” test the psychological knowledge of a Gemini, and bring this sign a feeling of the duality of insanity and sanity of a being. Naturally inquisitive, Gemini will find themselves trying to discover the deeper meaning in the tracks of The Dark Side of the Moon.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers
The combination of the album cover and feature of “Moon Song” in Phoebe Bridgers’ album Punisher, it naturally fits with the astrological sign of Cancer, with the moon being its ruling planet. Overall, Cancer’s are known to be highly emotional and intuitive beings. As an artist, Phoebe Bridgers often appeals to music lovers who dive deeper into their emotions and reflect upon emotional situations, which many of her songs encapsulate. Tracks in Punisher like “I Know The End” and “Moon Song” are perfect for Cancer’s who want to feel the feelings and analyze the psychological side of the tracks. All in all, most people with their sun sign in Cancer are in touch with their emotions, and an album like Punisher gives this sign a great way to wallow and feel.
Leo (July 23 – August 22): DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar
Confident and self-assured, Leo’s are all about ambition and strength. With the album DAMN., themes of struggles between good or evil and tracks with fast and evident beats create the perfect album for a Leo. Like most rap music, Leo’s are much more than what meets the eye and often conceal a deeper side to their entire personality. Songs like “HUMBLE.” and “DNA.” are perfect tracks to create a feeling of motivation and confidence that really reveal the proper side of a Leo.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22): OK Computer by Radiohead
Relatively similar to computers, Virgos are very industrious and logical, and with their personality known for being mostly methodical, especially on the outside. O.K. Computer is the perfect album for a Virgo, with themes of emotional isolation and technological style of responses to situations in life. Although deep down Virgo’s can be very sensitive and reflective, from the surface, Virgo’s are very overly independent and observant. Many tracks from O.K. Computer, including “No Surprises” and “Fitter Happier,” are very Virgo-like, describing themes through logical and critical perspectives without touching too deeply into the emotional meaning of the songs.
Libra (September 23 – October 22): Grace by Jeff Buckley
Ruled by Venus, the planet concerned with love and beauty, Libra’s are all about creating emotional equilibrium in any area of life. Grace by Jeff Buckley is an excellent album for anyone who wants to express their inner Libra through music. With the prominent theme of the inefficacious essence of love, songs “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” and “Forget Her” are the perfect tracks to add to a playlist for an emotional Libra. Overall, reflecting on love and the urge to find balance in the world of romance in Grace is the ideal album to encapsulate the true personality of a Libra, especially in love.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): Four Calendar Cafe by Cocteau Twins
Many people need help deciphering Cocteau Twins lyrics no matter how hard they try. Similarly, many people try to figure out Scorpios, yet no matter how hard one tries, they remain mysterious. Elizabeth Fraser, the lead singer, sings in a dreamy Gaelic style with lyrics usually only known to her. A person with their sun in Scorpio is generally described as very secretive, intense, and, most of all, mystifying. Four Calendar Cafe is one of the most personal and intimate of all Cocteau Twins albums, yet it conveys many themes through mysterious yet mesmerizing tracks throughout this record. “Bluebeard,” “Know Who You Are At Every Age,” and “Pur” are songs that give all kinds of Scorpio energy, with the majority of the interpretation left to the listener, only indeed known by the creators of the songs themselves.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Third Eye Blind by Third Eye Blind
Some people may denote Sagitarians as wild and rebellious, and others claim they are adventurous and energetic. Regardless of where one stands when describing a Sagittarius, the album Third Eye Blind explores all these traits. With their hit song “Semi-Charmed Life,” no other song has described a Sagittarius better, always looking for another wild path, passions to come, and most of all, their next adventure. Other songs that are also great for tuning into one’s inner Sagittarius include “Motorcycle Drive By” and “I Want You,” diving into love, lust, and more adventures. This high-energy and passionate album is perfect for any Sagittarius looking to channel into their wild side.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Back To Black by Amy Winehouse considers heartbreak, resistance to authority, and the ambition of finding love. As most Capricorns can be described as persistent, sensitive, and stubborn, Winehouse can directly appeal to this earth sign. The Hit song “Rehab” on this album can appeal to Capricorns’ stubborn and self-controlling side, fueling them with a fire of disobedience and justification of their actions and decisions. Other tracks on the record, like “Tears Dry On Their Own,” appeal to the strong-willed spirit of this sign, while “Back To Black” focuses on the sensitive side of Capricorns and their loyalty to a relationship. Whether this sign needs to touch into their more vulnerable side or drive their individuality, Back To Black is an excellent album for all Capricorns to jam out to.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Mama’s Gun by Erykah Badu
Aquarians love to push the boundaries and aren’t afraid to go against traditional ways of thinking, and with the album Mama’s Gun, Erykah Badu does just that. Experimenting with funk, R&B, and soul, Badu pushes the limits on this album and lets her creativity show throughout the record. Known for their enjoyment of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop, Aquarians love all things eccentric and innovative, leaving this groovy album as a perfect record to put on for any Aquarius. “Penitentiary Philosophy” is a superb track to start the album with a bang, leaving listeners hooked for an album full of funk, intellectually sound lyrics and themes, and unconventionally perfect ways. Other songs that stand out are “Didn’t Ya Know” and “Kiss Me On My Neck,” with beats that can stimulate an ever-evolving and curious subconscious of an Aquarius.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Cigarettes After Sex by Cigarettes After Sex
Compared to all the other signs, it is widely known that Pisces is the most emotional. Whether it’s bawling your eyes out on the bathroom floor or falling madly in love and seeing stars in your eyes, Cigarettes After Sex is the perfect album for all the overly emotional Pisces out there. By spiraling through all the deep emotions when falling in and out of love: heartbreak, anger, loneliness, and numbness, this album hits all the criteria for a Pisces in the mood to analyze their emotions. CAS’s dreamy yet powerful tracks can send any listener into a trance, especially Pisces. Pisces are generally imaginative, sympathetic, and sensitive, making tracks like “K.” and “Apocalypse” hit extra hard for highly emotional and visionary souls. In conclusion, this album is perfect for any Pisces trying to express their emotions.
I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
