Joywave Brings Home the BBQ at Ferris Wheelers in Dallas

Joywave rocks out Ferris Wheelers Backyard & BBQ in Dallas, Texas during the halfway point of their Permanent Pleasure tour.

On October 3rd, New York indie rock band, Joywave, rolled up to Ferris Wheelers in Dallas Texas. Joywave was a little shocked to find out that the venue they were playing at in Dallas that night was actually a barbecue joint/venue. Not only was it completely outdoors but it was also the smallest stage they have had to play on this tour so far. But the band made the most of it by finding new ways to bring fun elements into the show that had to be taken out. During their Permanent Pleasure tour, Joywave normally has a rotating inflatable cat up on stage with them, but because of how small the stage was in Dallas, they had to improvise. They thought it would be fitting to replace the cat with a table of barbecue items from the restaurant of the venue that they continuously handed out during their set to fans.

Opening for Joywave on their Permanent Pleasure Tour was HUNNY. The band not only puts on an amazing set but they were a great choice for this tour as well. HUNNY not only brings the same energy that Joywave does, but also compliments each other on this tour. Lead singer and guitarist of HUNNY, Jason Yarger, was having fun with the idea of playing in Texas at a barbecue joint as well by asking fans on social media to bring him a cowboy hat prior to the show, and he definitely got his wish and had fun with it.

Back in May, Joywave released their album Permanent Pleasure and had a ton of fun playing these new songs live on tour. With fan favorites off the album such as “Scared” and “Hate To Be A Bother,” as well as some Joywave classics such as “Tongues” and “Dangerous,” the fans were very happy with the setlist. Joywave always has a fun and upbeat presence on stage that can make anyone a fan of them. Overall, it was a fun and amazing experience at Ferris Wheelers that night and any fan of theirs would tell you to go see them at least once even if you don’t listen to a lot of their music.
