Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique Celebrates new EP by Playing at Rubber Gloves in Denton

Accompanied by openers BUGBEAR and Dust Mothers for the “The Devil Sold Me This EP” release show.

Based from “outer space”, female trio Bugbear gives a taste of alternative-punk with their sharp and powerful drums and deep strong vocals. Amazed by the talent of this group, audience members stand lifeless mesmerized by the unique sound. Making their way around the Denton music scene, Bugbear is seen frequently playing at Rubber Gloves and around Denton square. Drummer Micayla Mueller is on vocals as well as killing it on the drums while lead vocals and guitarist Ana Cortes shreds a Fender squire with a distorted dirty tone. Knocking the crowd out of their daze, “I Want to Be a Kid Again” sparked headbanging and moshing.

Welcoming the crowd with a springy psych-rock wave, Dust Mothers encourage the room to let loose. Tediously unorganized, the overwhelming mix of instruments is perfectly curated and detailed in a unique way. Their recent project, “Debacadebacle” released June 2 consists of echoed harmonies and passionate drums perfected by Nathen Clark. About four songs in sweat is flying off each member reflected by the purple and blue lights. Guitarist and vocalist Adrian Radons is committed to playing while breaking two strings in the span of a thirty minute set. Lead vocals and guitarist Roger Johnson is a friendly and playful spirit giving the audience a good laugh. Standing proud mid-stage, bassist Kegan Castillo draws attention with his vibrant red bass catching eyes juxtapositioning the dark guitars on his sides.

Gaining a local fan base, Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique or also known as Five Point Palm has covered bands such as Car Seat Headrest and My Chemical Romance. Committing to the bit at their Car Seat Headrest show, vocalist Luke Flasphohler dressed as Will Toledo with black frame glasses as well as bassist Ziggy Jackson stopping mid show to dress in a handmade furry costume. Because of their engaging and quirky sets, many locals have stuck around for future cover shows as well as original projects. With the release of their new EP “The Devil Sold Me This EP”, the crowd consisted of many locals as well as some new faces. From the beginning to the end of the set the audience did not disappoint, bringing intense energy. People were flying around the room moshing and dancing to every song. Flasphohler expressed to the room the dreams he’s had the last few nights about everyone hating the EP and nobody showing up to the show and how seeing the turnout meant the world to him knowing the EP made an impact.

Known for their success in other bands, guitarist Jayden Nylec as well as Luke Flasphohler play in another local indie band called Midnight Session playing frequently around Denton as well as playing in a Nevermind: Tribute to Nirvana with drummer Brendan Flanagan playing at big name venues such as Trees and Granada Theatre in Dallas. Currently juggling Five Point and Nevermind, Flanagan is also on tour with Aberdeen is Dead. The exposure as well as the dedication to music, this outstanding group of people are bound to make it big in the future whether as a sick cover band or rocking out to originals.

I am a Dallas-based photographer. I am social media manager and photographer for indie-rock band Laredo Two as well as writer and photographer for Prosper's online newspaper, Eagle Nation Online. I have always had a passion for anything music from playing shows myself (I play bass and guitar) to music photography. When I am not taking pictures or at a concert, I run a small jewelry business and work at a local guitar shop!
