Australian artists, PhaseOne and Void of Vision unveiled the ultimate metalcore x EDM radical and buzzing single collab, “Eyes Wide Shut.”
Australian Natives, PhaseOne and Void of Vision recently dropped their new collaboration single, “Eyes Wide Shut.” The pair comes together joining forces after numerous years long admiration for each other’s artistry by delving into a metalcore and electronic synth crossover that breaks down the composition and production fundamentals of a dark tumultuous track.
Void of Vision is an Australian metalcore four piece band formed in 2013 that consists of Jack Bergin (vocalist), Mitch Fairlie (guitarist), James McKendrick (guitarist), and George Murphy (drummer). Their sound is a cultivation of industrial and metal influences layered by a blanket of complete darkness that protrudes a fallen entity searching for its way out.
The band released their debut album, Children of Chrome in 2016, and their sophomore album Hyperdaze later in 2019. Void of Vision has recently been dropping their EP series, Chronicles periodically since 2022, dividing the tracks into chapters based on its multi-blended genre. When put together, the EP series will serve as a completed album, which has now been compiled in 2023.
The beloved, metal/electronic DJ and Music Producer, Graeme Duffy or better known as PhaseOne first emerged in 2013 by establishing themselves as a multidisciplinary artist fitting multiple genres into one category and aiming for the perfect realm that unites them together.
They released their debut album, TRANSCENDENCY in 2019, which is a compilation of EDM and metal infused signature tracks featuring artists such as North Lane, Escape The Fate, and Silverstein among many more. In addition, PhaseOne has also recently collaborated with other artists such as ERRA, Polaris, World Unknown, and many more artists who are quickly rising in the metal/rock music scene.
“Eyes Wide Shut” is a dynamic and experimental track that exudes uproarious energy through the mesh of a metalcore and EDM soundscape. The song is a depiction of helplessly yearning for sanity while being sunken into a whirlwind of overbearing negative forces.
Immediately, the presentation of the prominent screams and aggressive vocal entrance from Jack Bergin from Void of Vision sets the power of the magnetizing and riotous momentum that’s to come throughout the track. The intense lyrical performance portrayed by Bergin carries the utmost weight of feeling lost and abandoned to the point of no return. In a short commentary of the process behind “Eyes Wide Shut” Bergin explains the significance and lyrical context of the track as, “A mental slap in the face for myself, a reminder to snap out of falling back into old habits which I’ve done so well of keeping out of the past few years.”
In addition, the smooth melodic vocals and electronic drops flowing in between the song quickly shifts the tempo directing it towards an upbeat and energizing ambience heightening the ludicrous production. PhaseOne also comments on the song as being, “A metalcore-focused song with synth riffs mimicking the guitars throughout the entire track, giving it that electronic blend before breaking off into a full blown drum & bass section, which catches the listener off-guard in the best way possible.”
“Eyes Wide Shut” is a seamless yet contradictory track that is fueled by heavy metal breakdowns, bouncy synths, and drum kicks that perfectly blends without overpowering another where each genre has its moment to shine but still maintaining its dramatic flair that unites the two into a massive electrifying song.
The collaboration between both PhaseOne and Void of Vision is an explosive and striking fusion of electronic and metal style elements that opens up a new pathway for different musical genres to merge into one while creating a new lineage of fans who are looking for an expansion of their favorite genre. This mixture method of genres has lately amassed a growing community within the alternative scene proving it to be a successful relaunch of a new music era.
