Broncho delivers an outstanding performance on Saturday night at Thalia Hall in Chicago.
As you enter the darkly lit venue of Thalia Hall, you can’t help but feel the excitement from concertgoers as the room continues to fill. Sounds of beers opening and loud background music dance among the crowd as eyes look forward towards the stage in awe. “Broncho Worldwide” shines brightly on a projector screen, showcasing vintage videos of band members and their logo, setting the tone for a cool indie vibe.
Waiting ever so patiently, due to no opener, you can’t help but wonder when Broncho will make an appearance. As you look around the crowd, you can see the true fans, and they are incredibly happy to be here. As the lights dimmed, the projector screen rose to reveal a mirrored background on stage for the band’s arrival.
Broncho opens with the single “Funny” from their latest record, Natural Pleaser. The vibes are high as red lights flash and the crowd sways. Frontman Ryan Lindsay wears a t-shirt two sizes too big and sweatpants as he performs outstanding vocals and quirky dance moves. The shoegaze indie/alternative group has an incredibly chill vibe, capturing the authentic energy of the West Coast.
Ben King passionately plays each riff on the guitar, looking effortlessly cool in dark sunglasses and beanie. The group appears to be having just another night on stage, all playing effortlessly and divinely. Mesmerizing lights beam down on them, changing from one color to the next. You can feel each instrument bounce from the speakers as they play in unison.
Striking each note, bassist Penny Pitchlynn jams out while facing drummer Nathan Price as they nod simultaneously. Couples and groups of friends dance together, laughing and smiling as the room explodes with euphoria. Playing both new and old songs, the set lasted two hours, but had you wishing for no denouement.
The Natural Pleasure tour was a complete success for Chicago and its fans. The night was overwhelmingly great, and I encourage you to attend this magnificent show when it comes to a city near you.
