Destroy Boys, SASAMI, and chokecherry took over Houston’s Warehouse Live Midtown, and created an explosive show.
This was not a show to miss, as the three artists created a punk atmosphere with their rock influences. Fans moshed, danced, and had an amazing time at this once in a lifetime show.
chokecherry started off the night with a bang. They began their opening set with the song “Afterglow”, which has a slow indie vibe, but is paired with heavy instrumentals in the chorus, already preparing fans for the high-energy night to come. Next, they played “Around Around Around”, which also brought a riot grrrl era feel to the stage. Overall, fans went wild for the band’s amazing performance.
Next SASAMI took the stage. Last time I had seen SASAMI was at their opening set for Japanese Breakfast, where she toured with a heavy metal band, and it was one of the best shows of my life. I am happy to say that SASAMI exceeded my expectations this time, and brought an amazing stage presence matched with a versatile set to the Warehouse Live stage. SASAMI took a different approach to this set. She started off slow and indie with “I Was A Window”, and played a handful of songs from her first album SASAMI. Later she began to include some songs off of her album Squeeze (which is my favorite album from her) which really brought energy to the crowd, especially with songs like “Skin A Rat”.
Next, Destroy Boys took the stage, and began the set with a bang. They began with “Shadow (I’m Breaking Down)”, which invigorated and primed the crowd for the night to come. They included some songs from their Make Room and Open Mouth, Open Heart albums, allowing both old and new fans to enjoy the set. From these songs, “Crybaby”, and “Muzzle” were standout songs, with fans moshing to the set. They also played a variety of new songs from their newest album Funeral Soundtrack #4. Fans loved “Beg for the Torture”, and “Amor divino”, both of which had different vibes, but showcased Destroy Boys versatility.
