Fall Out Boy takes over Texas with special guests Daisy Grenade, Royal & The Serpent, and Bring Me The Horizon.
Fall Out Boy brought their summer tour, So Much For (Tour)Dust to Texas with openers Daisy Grenade, Royal & The Serpent, and Bring Me The Horizon on June 27, 2023 at The Woodlands, Texas at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion under the scorching summer Texas heat.
The first opener of the night, Daisy Grenade, a punk/grunge duo band from Brooklyn, New York that consists of Keaton Whittaker and Dani Nigro took the stage and immediately brought on their angsty power. The electricity buzzing off both members and the passion of the band was radiating to watch. With the heavy guitars and pop-punk infused catchy melodies, it was not hard to dance and headband along to, especially with tracks such as “Got It Bad”. Watching both Whittaker and Nigro having fun and singing along with each other made the experience even more entertaining.
Up next, New Jersey alternative/indie based band, Royal & The Serpent fronted by Ryan Santiago arrived on stage. Their loud and grungy style perfectly balances with Daisy Grenade serving as an extension of their set but with a twist. The unique and powerful distinctive voice by Santiago brings out the intensity of each song performed and fully takes control of the stage. One of the major highlights of their set was when Santiago brought out shiny red pom-poms covering Nirvana’s, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” immediately making the crowd sing along. Along with her short time on stage, she performed one of her most fan favorite tracks, “Overwhelmed” that also got fans singing. It was such an energetic set that leaves your heart pumping and ready for more.
Last but certainly not least, Sheffield, UK based Alternative-Metal band, Bring Me The Horizon played their first show on tour opening for Fall Out Boy. The band began their set with one of their newest songs, “AmEN!” originally featuring Daryl Palumbo and Lil Uzi Vert. Their musical genre is vastly different from the first two openers as they are heavier and darker setting the tone for an unforgettable night. Frontman Oli Sykes performed every track with such an insane amount of energy by running and dancing around on stage, hyping the crowd up. The band performed one of their fan favorite tracks, “Can You Feel My Heart?” that sent the crowd in an uproar. With their distinctive metalcore breakdowns and screams it was a sight to see the major difference in fans’ reactions. However, this did not stop newcomers enjoying the show leaving them stunned and filled with excitement about what’s next to come.
The sizzling energy and the various musical styles of the supporting acts all brought out the best in each other perfectly showcasing their love for their craft and creating an atmosphere that every person attending will gravitate towards. There is something for everyone at the So Much For (Tour)Dust and hopefully that the acts left with new fans that will follow along on their journey. In addition, Pete Wentz has previously stated before that having a diverse set of tour openers gives the opportunity to introduce fans to newer music and push them out of their comfort zones. The ability to merge the pop-punk genre with other different musical styles allows for the expansion within the music scene.
Throughout the night, fans were impatiently waiting and excited to see their favorite band in concert. Soon enough it was nearly time for Fall Out Boy to take the stage until suddenly the house lights went down and all you could hear were fans screaming at the top of their lungs. Finally, the wait was over and the stage curtain opened and Fall Out Boy began their setlist by performing a new track, “Love From The Other Side” from their newest album, So Much For Stardust.
The stage production and visual elements of the concert was such a sight to see. The stage design for the So Much For (Tour)Dust was presented in an eclectic and baroque inspired imagery that contained digital clocks, moons, and a massive moving inflatable of the doberman dog from the So Much For Stardust album cover.
It’s widely known that Fall Out Boy never misses an opportunity for creating the ultimate fan experience and further connecting more with the audience. There were numerous clear bubble shaped beach balls that were thrown into the crowd that went flying across from each end of the floor section. Additional elements such as bubbles flowing through the air onstage, pyro fireworks blasting on stage, and the inclusion of Wentz’ flamethrower guitar. The intense blazing energy of the fire and roaring fans filled the air of the outdoor theater through the Texas summer heatwave.
The band’s setlist included a range of songs from their discography making it a perfect experience for longtime die-hard fans and newer fans. They played fan favorite classics such as “Sugar We’re Going Down” to “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark” and tracks from their newest album such as “Hold Me Like A Grudge”.
To make each show special on tour and keeping fans on their toes at all times, Fall Out Boy has been switching songs every night by playing old tracks and never-before played songs picked by Wentz and a Magic 8 Ball.
The surprise setlist addition for The Woodlands, Texas included a serenading piano medley covers of “Somebody To Love” by Queen, “Take On Me” by AHA! and “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey performed by Patrick Stump. Along with the spectacular covers, Fall Out Boy performed their live debut of “The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years)”, from their latest record release sending fans into a frenzy. As their set was coming to a close, Fall Out Boy ended their set with their popular closing track, “Saturday” from Take This To Your Grave followed by an explosion of confetti and party banners.
