American punk-style band, FIDLAR, stops at Granada Theater in Dallas, Texas with their opener, Sugar Pit, and blows the audience away with their unconventionally addictive and catchy sets that kept the crowd asking for more.
As the weather in Dallas slowly, but noticeably, starts to become more pleasant as the season of fall rolls in, it is the perfect time for epic concerts to be scheduled. No more unbearable heat, uncomfortable sweat, or blinding sun. On this Monday evening in Dallas, there was a perfect, moderately cool breeze, greeting the concert goers forming a line outside the venue to prepare for the opening of the doors.
To get the show started, Illinois native alternative and indie style artist, Sugar Pit, takes the stage. Kian, the lead singer and guitarist, started his journey of music recording songs in his bedroom, and now is accompanied by a drummer, bassist, guitarist and two backup singers who all provide an amazing energy to the overall experience on the set. Not only were all the tracks played in their full lively and engaging, but also had a somewhat addictive and futuristic feel to the beats. Sugar Pit successfully gave the crowd an exciting opening that carried a spirited feeling throughout the night, but the group also gave many new faces a fresh artist to add to their playlist. As Sugar Pit finished up their set, they were left with an overwhelming amount of cheer and applause from the crowd. While the crew cleared up the stage, a rush of good vibes continued to pour into the venue as the audience realized it was close to showtime for their beloved headliner.
As the curtains raised, the crowd was greeted by a blinding set of led strings forming unconventional and odd shapes that decorated the stage. With a large banner that read “FIDLAR” in bold, the venue broke out in cheers as the band members began to take the stage. It only took a few hits to the drum set and a couple strums of the guitar for the pit to break out and dance. In the blink of an eye, the crowd went from motionless, to bodies flying off the stage, people jumping up and down and heads banging to the beat of the tracks being played. It was obvious to any newcomer that FIDLAR really knows how to put on a show.
FIDLAR is an American punk rock band formed in 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The lineup includes frontman Zac Carper, guitarist Brandon Schwartzel, bassist Max Kuehn and drummer Elvis Kuehn. The band’s name is an acronym for “Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk,” reflecting their carefree and rebellious look on life. FIDLAR burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut album in 2013, which featured infectious tracks like “Cocaine” and “Cheap Beer.” Their music is characterized by high-energy instrumentals, catchy melodies, and irreverent lyrics that tackle themes of youth culture, partying, and the complexities of modern life. Over the years, FIDLAR has released several albums, including Too, Awkward, and Almost Free, showcasing their ability to blend punk rock with elements of grunge and indie rock. Known for their electrifying live performances, the band has built a dedicated fanbase and has toured extensively, sharing stages with notable acts and festivals.
Throughout the night in Dallas, FIDLAR gave the audience a show worthwhile and kept the high energy and fun through the course of the entire night.
FIDLAR is continuing these nights of fun throughout the U.S. on their Surviving the Dream tour, with only a few shows left on their calendar, so, if your city is on the upcoming schedule, do not miss a night of moshing and melodies.
I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
