On April 10, 2024, the Heights Theater in Houston was jam-packed as Waxahatchee sold-out the venue after the release of her newest album, Tigers Blood. The show was accompanied by Good Morning.
Beginning the show was Good Morning, an indie duo from Australia. Their set was full of bright tones that filled the air with a chill, happy energy. Singing songs such as, “Excalibur,” “$10” and “Ahhhh (This Isn’t Ideal),” Good Morning’s stage presence brought a smile to everyone’s face for the full the thirty minutes that they played.
Next was Katie Crutchfield, best known as Waxahatchee, a singer-songwriter from Alabama. As Crutchfield and her four-piece band walked out onto the warmly lit stage, the audience went crazy. As they began playing “3 Sisters,” the audience started cheering even louder. It was a great beginning to the rest of their set which was full of strong vocals, folk twang and fun vibes.
The band kept going with songs such as “Crimes of the Heart,” “Ruby Falls” and “Oxbow,” all songs from her newest album, Tigers Blood, and her 2020 album, Saint Cloud. Crutchfield even sang songs from her duo Plains, such as “Line of Sight” and “Problem With It.”
The conclusion of each song was followed by huge praise from the crowd and great gestures of gratitude from the band. With a very large range between her oldest and youngest fans, the show was a beautiful example of people coming together for music. For a short hour, everyone in the room had their eyes glued to the stage and ears tuned into the sound. It was a show that no one wanted to end.
Overall, it was a great night to be at the Heights Theater. Waxahatchee’s phenomenal performance was perfect for fans of her newer work. While the singer’s U.S. tour only goes until the end of May, there is still a chance to catch her on the road! Keep up with her tour here.
I am from Houston, Texas and currently attending the University of Houston as a marketing major! From attending concerts, playing guitar, and collecting vinyl, I love anything that has to do with music. Some of my favorite artists include The Strokes, Omar Apollo, and boygenius. Besides that, I really like shopping, watching Pitch Perfect, and discovering new places in Houston!
