Vundabar performed a sold-out show at The Secret Group with special guests Runnner.

Vundabar blew up on TikTok with their well-known track “Alien Blues” and “Oulala” from their album Gawk, and have been putting out music non-stop. The group was originally supposed to make their way down to Houston in February, but postponed their tour dates due to a spike in COVID-19 cases around the nation. Vundabar definitely made it worth wait, as their show was nothing but energy and vibes from the band and fans.

The show started with openers Runnner, an artist Off Record Blog was lucky enough to catch at South by Southwest 2022. We were more than happy to see them again, and their show definitely kicked ass. Runnner played their hits like “Eggshell” and “Ur Name on a Grain of Rice.” Up next was Vundabar, and the fans couldn’t help but scream and dance. Their stage presence was incredible and had visible member archetypes – lead singer Brandon Hagen was the star of the show, bassist Zack Abramo was just chillin’, and drummer Drew McDonald was extremely chaotic (in a good way). Mosh pits were opening all over the place, and even with small production errors like the guitarist breaking a string, it was a great experience nonetheless. Vundabar is currently on the North American Tour. If they are coming to a city near you, make sure to check out one of their incredibly vibrant shows – it’s okay if you don’t know the songs, you just gotta mosh.

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and I don't plan on leaving any time soon! I didn't go to college, but I did gather and refine skills to secure work in the local entertainment space. On top of Off Record, I am the assistant operations manager at Phobia Haunted Houses during the fall/winter months of the year, and the rest of the time I'm slinging pizza to pay the bills. My goal for the future is to continue assisting the growth of the Houston creative scene any way I can, drop my day job, and be a stay-at-home cat dad for my lovely partner.
