UMI Takes Houston on a Spiritual Ride at the House of Blues

Currently on the “Forest in the City” Tour, Singer/Songwriter UMI and opener LAVVA took Houston on a spiritual journey that led to an unforgettable night on June 14th.

To start off the night, cosmic songstress Lavva took the stage and invited mystic the Hood Bruja, and her psychic medium Tahlia Loreal (The One You Seek). This Philly-based artist performed a divine set that the audience absolutely loved – she played songs like “Remember (The Path)” and “Portal333” Lavva is currently an independent artist who is “not willing to sign their soul away” and exclaimed how fans support her career. She encouraged fans to support local independent artists in any way they can, which strongly resonated with Off Record Blog’s mission.

Up next was UMI, who is currently on her first headlining tour to support her debut album Forest in the City. Before she began her performance, she talked the audience through a short and sweet meditation session that cleansed the space to radiate positive energy. Once she began singing her song “Sorry,” it was all uphill from there! UMI danced along with the crowd, and would constantly interact with her fans standing at the barricade. Nobody at the House of Blues stood still or stayed quiet, as everyone was swaying and singing along. Fans went crazy went UMI played songs like “Love Affair,” “Remember Me” and (encore song) “Pretty girl, hi!” UMI created a safe space for fans and attendees alike, and Houston can’t wait to see her again in the near future.

I'm a full-time music journalist/photographer from Houston, number one Paramore fan and Husky dog owner. I have a B.S in Radio-Television-Film from UT Austin and a M.A in Mass Communications from the University of Houston, which makes me smart! On top of being an avid concert-goer and movie fanatic, I love bonding with others over the power of local music and media.
