Tyla Prepares to Blow Our Minds With Debut Album and International Tour

Tyla, the R&B pop amapiano breakout star, has announced her first album and headline tour.

The self-titled album, Tyla, is set to release on March 1, with 14 tracks including previously released singles “Butterflies”, “On and On”, “Truth or Dare”, “Water”, and a “Water” remix featuring Travis Scott.

Tyla rose to fame with viral hit “Water” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #67 and quickly rose through the ranks, peaking at the #7 spot, making the 22 year old the highest charting African female soloist ever on the Hot 100.

The South African native was the first winner of the Grammy award category Best African Music Performance for “Water” at the 66th Grammy Awards.

The popularity of the Grammy winning South African artist is evident as numerous cities sold out within just a few days of ticket sales. The high demand led to the addition of new dates, and venues were upgraded in major cities such as London and Houston.

A press release promises that the tour will be “a visual and auditory spectacle, featuring a carefully curated setlist where [Tyla’s] dedicated fanbase, affectionately known as “Tygers” can expect an evening filled with energy, emotion, and anything but the ordinary.”

As a Houston native, I am passionate about the deep well of talent that Texas has to offer. From DIY shows to major label musicians, I just love to consume live music. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to highlight and memorialize incredible artists through photography and writing. When not on tour, studying at the University of Houston, or at local shows, I can be found reading, writing songs, enjoying soft cheeses, planning themed parties, and rolling down the hill at Hermann Park.
