Tijuana-based Singer Vanessa Zamora Performs an Acoustic Set at the Oak Cliff Assembly

Vanessa Zamora returns to Dallas at the Oak Cliff Assembly for a DAMALEONA vinyl pop up and to perform an acoustic set.

On Friday, May 3rd, Tijuana native Vanessa Zamora treated fans to an intimate, acoustic set in celebration of her latest album, DAMALEONA, which was releasing on vinyl that same day. She shares stories and anecdotes and dives into the meanings behind some of her songs.

Zamora is a gifted multi-instrumentalist – she transcends the roles of singer, songwriter, producer, and performer. Vanessa’s music invites listeners into the psychedelic realms of the pop genre, where emotional depth meets raw authenticity. Her velvety voice guides melodies that confront the truth of her emotions and the unfiltered nature of her thoughts, enveloping audiences in a stirring journey of self-discovery.

She begins the set with the first track on the record titled “Mar”, a song that explores the desire to let go of past pain and find solace in the cleansing power of the sea. The lyrics convey a sense of longing for freedom from resentment, loneliness, and mental anguish, all while also expressing hope for healing and moving forward with lyrics like “Que La Sal Lo Cure Todo,” which translates to let salt cure everything.

She followed with “Puro Pasado,” a song from her 2019 album Tornaluna Pocket. This song talks about being in a toxic relationship and how your feelings for someone can still feel present although you have separated ways. The lyrics express a desire to try again, even though you know it’s futile and that they are already a thing of the past.

In the middle of the performance, Zamora mentions that she does not play her sets the same way in every show and that she improvises when playing her songs so that every show is unique and special to both her and the listeners.

She transitions to track four from DAMALEONA, titled “contracorriente,” which explores the challenge of accepting the love we truly deserve. The title DAMALEONA symbolizes the interplay between femininity and masculinity, reminding us that true existence entails experiencing all emotions, whether positive or negative.

Vanessa’s music leads listeners through the unexplored territories of pop, guided by an eclectic and trippy sound. With her silky voice, she transports her audience to an alternate dimension, where timeless melodies abound. Her performances exude energy, evoking a spectrum of emotions and experiences, capturing a unique essence that ranges from serenity to euphoria.
