On November 20th, Houston artists Jacob Hutto, Astralace and Oh, Hooray gathered together for a night of fun yet sad performances at one of Houston’s newer intimate venues, the House of J.
The first performer of last night’s show was Jacob Hutto, an experimental indie-folk singer/songwriter based in Spring, Texas. While he played his set by himself with his guitar, his vocals and melancholic riffs made his performance all the more extraordinary. Next was the minimalist pop trio, Astralace. The trio started off their set with a cover of “Sunflower” by Post Malone, and continued to play through their songs, including their well-known song “Apple Tree.” The last band of the night was the art-pop band Oh, Hooray. The band gained success after being featured on NPR’s Best 2021 Tiny Desk Contest Entries for their song “Torment the Butterfly.” Some of the songs were exhilarating, while others were beautifully heart-rending. Regardless, the band seemed to have fun with their set and ended the night with a cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium”. Overall, the night was very enjoyable and all performances were delivered with such excellence.
