Bringing their West Coast vibes over to Austin, Texas, the band Sun Room is joining us for this year’s SXSW festival.
Based in Southern California, Sun Room channels a vibrant surf-rock sound inspired by 60s garage rock. Listening to their music will instantly make you want to bask in the sun and swim in the salty ocean waters. With their first EP released in 2020, they have wasted no time and have been quick to make a name for themselves. Opening for artists like Louis Tomlinson, Dayglow, or Inhaler helped them expand their audience, ultimately allowing them to headline their own tours.
The band consists of four members: Luke Asgian on vocals and guitar, Ashton Minnich on guitar, Max Pinamonti on bass, and Thomas Rhodes on drums. From their outfits to their hair, they each channel the California vibes to the max. Their art direction is also reminiscent of the Russian Constructivist era, with bold use of shapes, bright reds, and black-and-white tones in their photoshoots and album art. While they draw inspiration from various eras, their unique and consistent style makes their work instantly recognizable.
Their most recent release is a six-track EP titled Ritual of Chaos. The EP begins with their usual surf-rock style, but slows down in their third song, “Oslo, Paris, LA,” originally released as a single. This track begins with an acoustic guitar and even features a harmonica, far different than the usual fast-paced drumming that backs their songs. It picks back up with the next few songs, while continuing to introduce a variety.
This band offers a modern twist to 60s music, which is refreshing to see at this time, especially through young musicians like them. If you’re looking to find new music to dance to under the Texas sun, Sun Room is the one for you.
SXSW 2026 will be taking place from March 12th through March 18th. View SXSW Badge levels + prices + more information here.
