SXSW 2026 Artist Spotlight: Girl Tones

SXSW has always been about discovery – Enter GIRL TONES, the act currently making waves in the indie-rock scene, who will be performing for SXSW 2026.

If you haven’t yet been introduced to the high-voltage chaos of GIRL TONES, SXSW 2026 is the best place to catch this iconic sister duo. Hailing from Bowling Green, Kentucky, sisters Kenzie and Laila Crowe have quickly evolved from classically trained musicians (cello and piano, respectively) into one of the grittiest garage-rock acts in the country.

The duo was discovered by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant, who not only produced their debut material but signed them to his own Parallel Vision label. That mentorship catapulted them from local obscurity to major stages, and they haven’t wasted a second.

Despite being a relatively new act, their touring resume is already stacked. They have cut their teeth on the road supporting heavyweights like Cage The Elephant, Silversun Pickups, and The Velveteers. They’ve also proven they can handle massive crowds, having already dominated stages at Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees, and Austin City Limits.

Now, they are bringing that battle-tested energy back to Austin. Known for a sound that invites comparisons to The White Stripes, but with a distinct, “proudly imperfect” fury, making GIRL TONES the real deal. This is the duo you want to know before they make it big!

SXSW 2026 will be taking place from March 12th through March 18th. View SXSW Badge levels + prices + more information here.

I'm a full-time music journalist/photographer from Houston, number one Paramore fan and Husky dog owner. I have a B.S in Radio-Television-Film from UT Austin and a M.A in Mass Communications from the University of Houston, which makes me smart! On top of being an avid concert-goer and movie fanatic, I love bonding with others over the power of local music and media.
