On November 2, 2023, Sun Room took over the Studio at Warehouse Live along with The Wheel Workers and Sarah and the Sundays.
The first act of the night was Houston based rock band, The Wheel Workers. Performing a thirty minute set, the band brought a powerful energy to the stage that properly kicked-off the show and left the audience beaming. Before leaving, they explained to everyone that they were so thankful to be there and gave praise to the upcoming performances.
Next up was Sarah and the Sundays. This Austin based indie band brought a lighter tone to the stage, which perfectly complimented the previous band, while also preparing the crowd for the main act. Performing “Vices,” “Moving On” and “Veneer,” the group captured the attention of the crowd and gave an incredible performance. Towards the end, lead singer, Liam Yorgensen, switched from a guitar to a tambourine and went into the crowd to dance with everyone, ending the set on a high note.
At around 9:45 pm, Sun Room took the stage. As lead singer, Luke Asgian, guitarist, Ashton Minnich, bassist, Max Pinamonti and drummer, Thomas Rhodes, walked on, the crowd cheered in both excitement and anticipation for the show to begin.
“Just Yesterday,” was the first song played, which was a perfect foundation for what was to come next. As they kept playing, the energy got higher and higher until everything was in full swing. From the minute their set began, there was head-banging and dancing all throughout the whole night.
The band’s music is a great combination between indie and surf-rock. Each song played was a vibrant mixture of catchy guitar riffs and fast paced drums. Complementing the music, were the vocals of Asgian. His rough voice blended perfectly with their style of music, which was amazing to see live.
After playing their newest track, “Cut My Hair,” and the song dedicated to their tour photographer, “Kaden’s Van,” the group took the time to highlight a special talent of their bassist, Max. “He’s a little nervous, but he’s been practicing for you guys,” said the lead singer. Pinamonti then took the mic and proceeded to recite the ABC’s backwards, which impressed many in the crowd.
The performance went on with hits like, “Sol Del Sur,” “Summer’s Here” and an audience favorite, “Fun.” Fans recognized the song just by the beginning countdown, to which they reacted with one of the loudest cheers all night. Cameras were pulled out all across the room, and everyone seemed to know each and every lyric. The final song played was, “At Least I Tried,” before the band left and came back for an encore.
Overall, the night was incredibly lively. The buoyant energy from all three bands was felt all around. With a little less than a month left of their fall tour, Sun Room is one band you do not want to miss. Find more about their upcoming dates here.
I am from Houston, Texas and currently attending the University of Houston as a marketing major! From attending concerts, playing guitar, and collecting vinyl, I love anything that has to do with music. Some of my favorite artists include The Strokes, Omar Apollo, and boygenius. Besides that, I really like shopping, watching Pitch Perfect, and discovering new places in Houston!
