Enjoy the spring showers with our whimsical playlist filled with ethereal vocals, intricate instrumentals, and a touch of magic!

Rabbit Hole – Madeline the Person

Madeline the Person’s newest single leans into her well-established whimsical aesthetic. She sings, “I’m sinking down the rabbit hole of make-believe,” comparing falling for an unrequited love to a descent into madness. The dreamy la-la-la’s and doo-doo-doo’s emphasize the speaker’s delusion as she falls harder for her crush. It is paired along with fluttery wind instruments and delightful piano further drive home the song’s enchanting, magical quality.

Symptom of Life – Willow

This song is my current obsession. The 7/4 time signature of the verses makes this song uniquely captivating, as if the listener is being dragged along on Willow’s journey of self discovery. Later, she sings about being connected to something larger than herself. The chorus shifts into a 4/4 time signature and beautiful harmonies that almost feel like relief after the intensity of the verses.

Better in the Dark – Jordana, TV Girl

Jordana’s solo vocal track on this song creates a rather dreamy soundscape that beautifully complements the guitar. Ambient drums with heavy reverb further add to the ambient, whimsical quality of the song.

Your Blood – Aurora

Aurora is royalty when it comes to whimsical music. This song, off her 2024 album What Happened To The Heart, further exemplifies that. The ethereal vocal runs followed by a punchy beat paint blend together to deliver a hypnotising tune that I just can’t get enough of!

Aurora reigns supreme when it comes to whimsical music, and this song, from her 2024 album What Happened To the Heart, only further cements that. Ethereal vocal runs followed by a punchy beat blend together to deliver a hypnotizing tune.

Headlock – Imogen Heap

The instrumental accompaniment makes this song oh so whimsical. The disjointed ambient pop style is deeply intriguing and immersive, creating an almost liminal, otherworldly atmosphere.

Bloop Bloop – Boy Called Cute

The synth progression, paired with soft indie vocals, makes for an effortlessly effervescent track. The last 20 seconds of static and haunting vocals sound as if the band is being abducted by friendly aliens. The whimsy!

Witches – Alice Phoebe Lou

The name of this song suggests it’s inherently whimsical. She sings of spells she’s cast on the subject and their moonlit eyes as the synths swell and overflow everything. Alice Phoebe Lou’s misty vocals make this song feel like a magical dream I just can’t get enough of!

As a Houston native, I am passionate about the deep well of talent that Texas has to offer. From DIY shows to major label musicians, I just love to consume live music. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to highlight and memorialize incredible artists through photography and writing. When not on tour, studying at the University of Houston, or at local shows, I can be found reading, writing songs, enjoying soft cheeses, planning themed parties, and rolling down the hill at Hermann Park.
