The “Cotton Candy” and “Grade A” singer/songwriter makes her full-length debut with ANGIE solidifying spill tab‘s growing influence.

French-Korean singer/songwriter Claire Chicha from Paris, France is now LA-based spill tab. She first rose to fame with a bedroom pop style on singles “Decompose,” “Calvaire,” and “Cotton Candy.” Her unique voice and style have been on the rise for years as she played at festivals and opened for artists like Sabrina Carpenter. She has released three EPs so far, but now she has finally released ANGIE– her biggest project yet.
ANGIE follows in the distintive style that spill tab has created along with her frequent collaborator, producer marinelli. It opens with “Pink Lemonade,” a song with sporatic production that mixes electronic elements with vocal distortion. This distortion is also reflected in the cover art: spill tab and her friends are painted in wonky proportions that reflect the album’s musical style.
Also, the album is also about spill tabs personal connections. The music video for “Hold Me” shows her holding and being held by her friends, partner, mom, and dog. Along with that, music video for “Pink Lemonade” shows spill tab surrounded by musicians, all cramped into small spaces.
Later in the album, “De Guerre” details the darker sides of these relationships. The song, sung in French, shows spill tab and an unspecified relationship giving too much to each other and that turning toxic. The album repeatedly dives into these themes of want and desire, going after love even if it may not be perfect. Sometimes, you can’t stop yourself.
Overall, the album capitalizes on spill tab’s established strengths while opening up to new ideas; spill tab is definitely an artist to watch. Her upcoming tour takes place in the UK and home country France this May and June, but she’ll visit Texas this fall to play both weekend of Austin City Limits.
