South by Southwest 2024: March 16th Music Recap

It’s the final day of the Music Festival, meaning all showcases and events are dedicated to end SXSW 2024 with a BANG.

Rhinestone Rodeo Presented by Rambler Sparkling Water

Rambler presented a double showcase, on one side, the alternative rock duo, Jane Leo, revealed the performance to be their sole SXSW appearance. Despite the early afternoon hour, they encouraged the crowd to embrace the energy of midnight hours and shed their inhibitions. Guitarist Daniel Leopold demonstrated the swagger of a seasoned rockstar pairing his precise playing with engaging moves. They performed “The More You Know”, “Wow” and recently released “ Vicious One”. Vocalist Jane’s charming voice, accompanied by a subtle whisper that commanded attention, was brought to life by her rhythmic movements. To everyone’s delight, she descended from the stage and joined the crowd as they danced.

On the other side at Coral Snake, Urban Heat made a surprise appearance as they weren’t initially slated to perform at that time. Initially caught off guard by the sudden change in the lineup, it took a brief moment for the crowd to adjust, but they swiftly warmed up to the front man’s deep and resonant voice. Photographers quickly gathered to capture the dynamic energy and sharp moves during the performance of “Trust” and “That Gun in Your Hand”. – Emily Martinez

Urban Outfitters 2024 Showcase

Tierra Whack’s DJ warmed up the crowd with classic hip-hop tunes, and Whack herself emerged in a stylish red and white jumpsuit, paired with red sunglasses. She pledged to elevate the crowd’s energy and ensure a phenomenal show. Whack was surprised the audience did not erupt in energy as she performed tracks off her new project (which had been released just the day before). After accepting that her fans did not have enough time to memorize the fresh tracks to heart, she transitioned to more familiar songs from her previous projects. The momentum quickly picked up and the presence of “OG fans” in the crowd was evident. Women from the audience enhanced the atmosphere by dancing on speakers and on stage during the performance of “CLONES”. The energy reached its peak while fans united in synchronized jumps during “Only Child” and her very well-kept secret song where she eloquently raps at a fast pace. Whack’s fervent chant of “World Wide Whack” served as a mantra that amplified the promotion of her new project. The performance concluded with a resounding bang, leaving the audience brimming with leftover energy to carry with them for the rest of the evening. – Emily Martinez
