For Off Record’s last day of SXSW coverage, the team hung out around UT Austin and attended two main events – UO Live at Austin and M.A.T.H Rock Fest.

So many bands, so little time! Mainly All Texas Homies (M.A.T.H.), a collective of Texas-based Rock bands had an all day celebration at the iconic Hole In The Wall venue in the West Campus area. Houston band, Islands of Pear, were among the early afternoon performers who rocked the main stage. An array of melancholic lyrics with semi upbeat instrumentals followed their performance. Included in the set were singles from their recent double demo project release The Weird Weight. Castle Club shredded the front stage with a non-stop performance that included amazing guitar finger work that enticed passersby to peek into the venue. Chancla Fight Club brought high energy and engaged audience members to sing along and the freedom to dance about. Their set ended with their recent single Monster that included a flute solo by frontwoman Ashley Dawson.

Consequently, Space 24 Twenty was shining with great vibes. The heat was bearing on everyone in the crowd, as everyone was eagerly waiting for Japanese Breakfast to take the stage. The Urban Outfitters showcase was the place to be, especially since they had lots of complimentary food and drinks, and lots of free goodies. The first artist of the evening was Baird, who played sweet jams to match the chill atmosphere as the venue filled up. After a short intermission, Niko Rubio put on a wonderful performance as she caught everyone’s attention with her powerful voice. Despite one of their guitar strings breaking before the last song, the show carried on and an exclamation that Niko Rubio “loves Japanese Breakfast.” After the venue hit capacity and the streets/parking garages outside of the space were full of people, Japanese Breakfast closed out the evening with an emotional performance that everyone seemed to resonate with.

These final two events were a perfect ending to ORB’s week of coverage, and we are excited to see what’s in store for next year’s festival. South by Southwest was an overall great experience as ORB was able to make lots of connections, meet lots of new people and artists, and ORB cannot wait to return.
