As the Off Record Blog team began to attend South by Southwest on Wednesday, ORB covered two major showcases – Flood Fest Day 1 and Jam in the Van.

South by Southwest is officially back and in full swing. The first event of the day was Flood Fest at the Mohawk, which had a stacked lineup of bands. On the outdoor stage, crowds gathered to watch the dreamy indie trio, Horsegirl, and the post-punk group, Cuffed Up, who played their first SXSW as a band. Ceramic Animal’s groovy vibes enticed dancers to show their moves and after having a few technical difficulties, rapper bbymutha hyped up the crowd for an energetic performance.

The next event for the day was Jam in the Van, which is being held in South Austin from Wednesday through Saturday. Organizers brought the Jam Van out into the field of the Armadillo Den and had artists perform a short recorded set inside the van for their YouTube Channel, as well as a full set on the outdoor stage. This was Jam In The Van’s first public showcase at SXSW, and the turnout was massive for an event held so far away from the heart of downtown.

I am an Austin-based photographer and social media manager. My love for photography started in high school which lead me to study communications at Texas Tech University and The University of the Incarnate Word. Aside from my love for photography and live music, I enjoy spinning vinyl, kayaking, biking, and chilling with my cat, Petrie.

I am a UX Designer and creator of many things. I grew up going to shows in Austin, then moved to Denton to study at UNT. I play in a band and some projects in my college town (mostly bass), I try to write my own music, make art, and create anything that sparks interest. I love disco music, 70's style and dancing!
