saturdays at your place is a 3-piece Midwest emo band from Kalamazoo, MI. Esden Stafne (vocals/bass), Gabe Wood (vocals/drums), and Mitch Gulish (guitar), their group’s name was never just a name. It is what’s held them together through college and the strange process of becoming an adult. After meeting and becoming friends, they joined together as a band in college. The group released its debut album, something worth celebrating, in 2021. Songs such as “coffee cups” and “first of all” did particularly well and set the foundation for the band.

In 2023, their success was taken to the next level with the release of the always cloudy EP. Featuring the emo cult classic “tarot cards,” always cloudy catapulted the trio into notoriety in the scene. In addition to their success in the studio, the band has toured with notable bands such as Hot Mulligan, Origami Angel, and Mom Jeans. Also gracing the stages of Furnace Fest and Ohio Is For Lovers. Most recently, they announced their headlining tour in July and released their latest LP, these things happen, in September of this year.

Come and Take It Live appeared bustling long before saturdays at your place took the stage. As soon as doors opened, fans poured into the venue in a wave of excitement. The night kicked off with Texas native rockers, Riley! The crowd fed off the band’s energy as they played fan favorite tunes “Fight Milk!’ and “777.” Soon after, Philly-grown three-piece Carly Cosgrove struck a chord with fans, as they raised their hands and sang along to “Don’t Lick the Swingset” and “Not My Job.”

After two energetic openers, attendees were readier than ever for their headliner. Around 9:15pm, the lights dropped and cheers echoed throughout the venue as saturdays at your place entered the stage.
The peaceful, acoustic intro “welcome” served as an atmospheric transition into the band’s primary opening tracking “cross my heart”. Voices immediately joined the band in singing, “Take a deep breath, it’s all in your head,” empathetically. Leaning more into their 2023 EP, That’s What Friends Are For, everyone’s hands waved as “pourover” spilled out into the atmosphere. In between songs, the band noted it was their third time in Austin, and the question of who saw them previously was welcomed by a large group shouting loyally. As the night carried on, the trio’s passionate performance took fans on a journey.
I am a photographer and live music lover based in Austin and raised in Houston. I recently graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where I studied Marketing and co-led the photo team at Afterglow ATX. I feel most at home where people are moshing, thrifting, or sipping coffee. My favorite artists include The Maine, Pierce The Veil, 5SOS (+ Luke's solo work), Waterparks, MCR, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles.
