The Mars Volta returned to Houston for their reunion tour after being on hiatus for 10+ years.
The Mars Volta formed in 2001 and is fronted by member Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. After the disbanding of their previous band At the Drive-In, they decided to go in a different direction with The Mars Volta, following a more progressive sound with Bixler-Zavala’s signature vocals. Houston showed up for their reunion tour, as 713 Music Hall was filled up to the brim. The band came out and performed “Vicarious Atonement” and continued to play elongated versions of their iconic tracks like “Graveyard Love” and “Cicatriz ESP.” They ended their set with an energetic performance of “Intertiatic ESP.” While the band is set to perform multiple festivals in 2023, the Mars Volta definitely put on one hell of a show in Houston.
I'm a full-time music journalist/photographer from Houston, number one Paramore fan and Husky dog owner. I have a B.S in Radio-Television-Film from UT Austin and a M.A in Mass Communications from the University of Houston, which makes me smart! On top of being an avid concert-goer and movie fanatic, I love bonding with others over the power of local music and media.
