Brothers Nat and Alex Wolff Bring the Nostalgic Energy to Houston’s House of Blues

Nat and Alex Wolff perform an exhilarating show in the Bronze Peacock Room at Houston’s House of Blues with opener Boris & the Joy.

Siblings Nat and Alex Wolff are both known for their extensive acting careers and start with the Nickelodeon show The Naked Brothers Band, created by their mom Polly Draper. After the shows end, the pair continued to write music together, and most recently released their third album Table for Two in the summer of 2023. After teasing a tour, they finally announced a six-stop mini tour to occur in January, which surprisingly included Dallas and Houston as the Texas stops.

Fans waited in line as early as 9am from different parts of Texas, as most fans have waited to the duo since their childhood. Doors opened at 7pm and fans rushed into the venue to get their spots in for the night. Starting off the night was one-man band Boris & the Joy, a musician who claims to have been in the scene for a long time. In between his set, singer Boris Pelekh mentioned how he worked with the brothers since Nat and Alex were 9 and 12 respectively. Pelekh kept throwing good vibes to the crowd, as he stated “it takes you and me to create this energy so thanks for being a part of this.” He continued to play his emotional tracks to get the crowd moving, as everyone swayed to the funky rhythms. Boris performed a song called “Vultures,” which depicts a common feeling underrepresentation and serves as a “big fuck you” to those who don’t accept individuals for their true person.

Nat and Alex soon took the stage, and the fans cheered as loud as possible. It was an obvious tell that this show was some fans’ first time seeing the brothers live, as they rarely every toured to the south. The brothers started with the heart-wrenching track “Heads on Loose” from Table for Two, followed by “If I’m Gonna Die” and stand-alone single “Note.” Fans were swaying and singing along the entire time, proving Houston’s love for the evolution of Nat and Alex Wolff. Over their set, the continued to play newer songs from Table for Two, including “25” and “Winter Baby.” The most pleasant surprise of the night was that singer/songwriter (and Alex Wolff’s partner) Rozzi came out for a special appearance during the track “Lucky You,” where she provided her momentous backing vocals.

Along with newer songs, they also sang older songs like the popular “Rolling Around” and “Thump Thump Thump” from their first album after the Naked Brothers Band era came to a close. The most intense and emotional part of the show was the performance of “All My Plans (Shake),” a song written about the brothers’ dad Michael Wolff being diagnosed with cancer. “This song is for anyone who has lost anyone” Nat Wolff exclaimed as he jumped into the crowd to sing with the crowd.

Nat and Alex Wolff also did an impromptu performance of “Crazy Car” for the first time in years, as they’ve sworn off from performing that song in their current musical careers. They also proceeded to bring fans on stage to sing the NBB song from season one “I Indeed,” bringing a huge sense of nostalgia to Houston. The set ended with the energetic performance of “Glue,” as all of Houston screamed to the top of their lungs.

It was a joyous night at the House of Blues, and it’s safe to say that the sibling duo definitely brought the energy to House of Blues. With fun quips, quick improvisations through technical difficulties and immaculate interactions with the crowd, it’s obvious that they truly care about their fans. With their rising acting careers, they continue to make music purely out of aspiration and expressing their love through creation. Sure their tour was short, but they definitely made a mark for fans waiting for this moment

** Quick Author’s Note: I refer to fans a lot in this article. It’s very easy to switch the word “fans” and put “myself” here, as I’ve been a fan of Nat and Alex Wolff since 2005. Seeing this show made my childhood dreams come true, and meeting them after the show was one of the greatest and happiest moments of my life – it feels great to say that THEY KNOW how grateful I am for their existence. Thank you for growing up with me, thank y’all for being an inspiration, even as an adult. – Keylee**
