Austin-based band Night Cap feels the love from their East Coast fans during a show at the Mercury Lounge in New York.
After the release of their recent album, It’s Happening, this past November, Night Cap took their new album on the road. The indie rock band from Austin, Texas, made their way to the Mercury Lounge in New York City on Tuesday night, where the intimate Manhattan venue was packed with anticipation for the show as fans came together to share their love for the band.
Opening the night was Boston-based indie rock band, Fai Laci, who wasted no time setting a high-energy tone for the night. Their set was electric with a mixture of new music, fan favorites, and a cover of “Folsom” by Johnny Cash. Guitarist Anthony Cervone was absolutely shredding it on the guitar. The entire band was clearly lost in their music. Luke Faillaci, the band’s lead singer, even made his way into the crowd to dance among concertgoers. “This is what it’s all about…bring live music back”, encouraged Faillaci, “Look to your left and right, you have friends everywhere.”

Night Cap took the stage soon after, opening with fan favorite “Freefall”. The band from Texas is made up of 5 longtime friends. Lead singer Ryan King and bass player Alex Alfonso met during their time at the University of Texas. The band officially formed in 2017 with additional members Jake Bomgaars and Stijn Dobbelaere, and went on to release countless singles and eventually their debut album in 2024. That sense of deep connection between the band members translated effortlessly into their set. Night Cap’s sound can be described as encapsulating, with layered harmonies, emotional lyrics, and a sound that immerses the room.
The Tuesday night set was a mixture of older singles along with songs from their recently released album, It’s Happening. Between songs, fans seemed to hold their breath to see which of their favorites would be played next. Fans spun each other around and danced as the band played through their set. King expressed his gratitude to the crowd and the support of their fans.

Before the show began, one concertgoer handed out paper hearts for people to place over their phone flashlights. As the band played their first single, “Everest”, the room glowed with red hearts, a moment that allowed fans to get even more lost in the moment of the show. It was the kind of moment where you stop and try to memorize the moment.
The night closed with Night Cap inviting Fai Laci back on stage for “Like that”, the opening track on the new album. The two bands blended seamlessly, their chemistry unmistakable as they closed out the unforgettable night. It was the perfect celebration of live music and the growth of a band.
I am a photographer from San Antonio. I found a love for photography when I was in High School and was able to take classes in college to further my skills. I love the outdoors, hiking, reading, and finding new music. Some of my favorite artists are The Band Camino, Coldplay, RHCP, and Phoebe Bridgers.
