Mother Mother packed 713 Music Hall with fans celebrating their newest album “Grief Chapter”. Cavetown and Meet Me @ The Altar accompanied them, making the night a success.
Indie-rock band Mother Mother packed Houston’s 713 Music Hall on their current tour with Cavetown and Meet Me @ The Altar. Fans anxiously packed the venue, waiting for their chance to sing along to the songs they grew up with.
First, Meet Me @ The Altar lit up the stage. The band brought an amazing energy to the crowd with their upbeat instrumentals, and energetic vocals. The band was also a perfect fit for fans of Mother Mother, as the band pulled inspiration from the performance styles of similar artists such as Paramore and Avril Lavigne. Overall, Meet Me @ The Altar has the potential to influence modern rock, and they shined in their performance.
After Meet Me @ The Altar, fans were anxiously anticipating Cavetown, the next opener for the night. As soon as the band walked on stage, the fans went wild, ready to sing along to the songs they had grown up watching on YouTube. Although Cavetown is generally a lower energy band, with many of the songs being soft ballads, they brought an infectious enthusiasm that got fans cheering along quickly. Later in their set, they honored pride month, unfurling the LGBTQIA+ flag on stage leading to roars from the audience. As they continued performing, they were handed a trans pride flag by an audience member which they also held on stage. They performed the famous “Boys Will Be Bugs”, and “Lemon Boy“, successfully priming the audience for Mother Mother.
Lastly, fans cheered when Mother Mother entered the stage singing “Nobody Escapes”. Next they transitioned into the famous “Arms Tonite” and “Hayloft II” leading to hundreds of fans screaming along to the lyrics. Recently, these songs, amongst a couple of other Mother Mother songs have gone viral on TikTok, reviving the love fans have for Mother Mother. Later they played a compilation of “Dirty Town”, “Neighbour”, “Ghosting”, and more. Towards the very end of the set, they performed a beautiful mashup of their popular song “Hayloft”, and Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.” The cover was beautiful, making it a very memorable part of the night. Later in the set, the lead singer took a minute to motivate other young artists to continue practicing their craft, thanking Meet Me @ The Altar and Cavetown for their inspiration.
To end their spectacular set, Mother Mother were played out by Queen’s “We Are The Champions.”
Overall, Mother Mother was a perfect act to see the night before Houston’s Pride Parade, and brought a beautiful energy to the venue. Be sure to check them out on their tour.
